Currently back from Hong Kong for a few weeks... I finished university last year, went to a shitty Uni but got a first class in.... international relations. When I finished all the job offers were purely work experience and nothing else with the only paid job being around 10k a year or so.
So I decided to just check jobs in Hong Kong (I have family in there, brother race mixed) and long story short I started teaching english there to kids with the starter wage at around 24k hkd a month ( around 2.4k pounds a month).
This required no degree or experience. Well required some experience but you could bend the truth and that what I did. I private tutor on weekends for 600 hkd an hour, 8 hours in total over the saturday and sunday and they pay for my MTR transport expenses. Thats about 500 pound I earn from the weekend for private tutoring.
All they ask for is that you are native english speaker (and white).
I absolutely fucking regret going to university and building up debt for fucking nothing which is also my fault for picking a stupid ass fucking degree.
University is not worth it at fucking all because at the end of the day most jobs don't care for your degree, they just care about you as a person, your contacts and experience

You know what other people know, and you know what their arguments are, but you cannot MAKE their arguments, or tell where they went wrong.
Almost half of hires are not in your field. Many Tech hires are non-stem degrees, and half of STEM degrees didn't get jobs in their field.
What impresses and succeeds are people who can think for themselves, and not just expect that all the constraints encountered in a job are going to have precedent that is taught in school.
STEM, like all degrees, doesn't guarantee that you understand anything or can learn anything, only that you can recite what someone else learned before you.

Public history is the way to go. I make $64k a year to do research and tell people whether or not they can tear down an old building because it has historical relevance. It's gotten even easier now that we've started digitizing most of our collections. Looking to micro-film slides was a pain in the ass, but now I can pull up a lot of information without spending hours looking at one spool of film that might not even have the information I need on it.

Some are necessary for life to function. Subjects like education, law, business and finance etc
Some are necessary for life to be interesting. I think history is important, if you don't at the very least know the history of your own country you are a degenerate, but if nobody knows it, if it isn't studied or analysed then I think your view of the world we live in will never be complete. Sure History, Literature and Language grads aren't quite as useful for the progression of man kind but what kind of world would it be if everyone was a scientist looking forward, and nobody took time to look around, and look where we came from. I've always seen these kind of subjects more as hobbies but at the end of the day we live in a free market and if they can find themselves a job and earn a living let them do it. Entertainment is just as, in fact probably far more, profitable than technological and scientific progression, so if they study a subject simply for those reasons there's nothing wrong with it.

As someone who've studied the sciences and arts, I can tell you that science doesn't emphasize creativity. Yes, it's primary concern is problem solving regarding dilemmas and the memorizing of various formulas, typically using the same methods over and over. It's extremely linear.
This is why you've come to the conclusion, in your linear thought, that anything besides a STEM degree lacks importance.
STEM doesn't teach you about historical precedent, societal constructs, the ideologies surrounding the complicated and intricate intersection between behavioral limitations and freedoms - this is why you alone see it necessary to curb all human interaction and turn us into essentially what STEM is turning you into: motherfucking robots.
The sciences have advanced enough to give everyone comfortable lives in this modern day; now what's important is how we all interact with this technology, and more importantly, with each other. The truest impending problem is automation and the seeming inevitable replacement humans will be having with machines. Science doesn't have the foresight to know where it's technology should lead or how damaging it could be on its population - that goes with genetic tampering, eugenics, and other tech that's going to reshape what's been natural for eons into something, for better or worse, hardly recognizable.

Right place, right time, really. Dropped out of Phil with a half finished Ph. D. Academia is full of vermin. Was fucking around working in a bookstore when I started dating a woman who worked in insurance. She was making three times as much as me. I wanted to get paid more to be on a more level playing field, so applied for a Customer Service job at her firm. They saw my CV was better than a customer service monkey, so went into a Risk department. Upgraded to risk investment banking and then because of my network and capability rolled over into the business side of things.
Was part of a few good deals and a few promotions later I am where I am. Dumped the woman ages ago, but laugh when I think that I make $400k a year more than her for no good reason.
Other thing to realize is that IB is not difficult really. Just long hours.

Most of the reports I write up are between 50 to 75 pages long to back up whether or not I think the site is worthy of preservation. I remember when I was like you, thinking STEM is the best thing since sliced bread. Back then, I was an undergraduate just starting to get into his major. However, I have been visiting academic events held by other fields of study and made friends in other fields. I realized that there was plenty of interesting stuff to learn from other fields and if I could despecialize from my major, I would gladly do so in order learn from other fields that weren't core curriculum.

Medfag here, it doesn't. The scientific method is a useful tool that might work for very specific cases, as theory almost always differs to reality due to omitted variables. Philosophy is wisdom in it's purest form, less sanctioned than our method and useful for scientific and unscientific matters. It's like comparing chards and stems instead of eating both.
