Because it was never a "better burger" trend, it was a "cheaper burger" trend. McDonalds tastes like ass. As a general rule of thumb, any burger place that doesn't at least form the patties on site is questionable quality. Top-tier places will even grind the beef on site.
Americans I tried all of the shit that I could while in the US, but I loved two things the most.
1. The WaWa sandwiches with italian salami and another one with cheesteak... holy shit, without a doubt the BEST sandwiches I have ever tasted in my life. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Not sure if that chain is popular, but they had the best fucking sandwiches overall. Subway is literally shit in comparison.
2. The ridiculously small, cheap and disgusting hot dogs in 7/11. I topped them off with a ton of that processed crap you call cheese and pickles, sour kraut, you name it. You couldn't even see the hot dog form all the shit I piled on top. Not sure why I liked it, not for the taste lol, but it was comfy as fuck.
