With Poly and Mexican mormons I can see that, but I'm sure there is some suspicion around black "mormons" still. Some of the ones I met were okay, but it wouldn't be below some ghetto black hustlers to fake a conversion just for some white Mormon tail and some Mormon gibs (even though church welfare requires actual work so I doubt many will favor it over government handouts.)
There is a mormon that commonly comes to my door on Sundays. I informed him that I was raised Catholic, and that my family is fairly devout. I didn't tell him that I have since lost my faith, but nevertheless we have interesting conversations about the world and religion. While I realize he ultimately wants me to convert, he's a good man and has some interesting views on Christ.
I think people get a bit too overzealous in their detest of Mormons. They can be annoying in their persistence, but they tend to be good people with odd ideals. At the least, they are not a violent people. In a world such as today, I find that to be a positive.

Mormons aren't just the savior of the white race, they are the savior of every race. In spite of what many claim, the church is not real big on race mixing either. Sure it is allowed, but by no means required or recommended. Even up to the late 2000s, LDS youth pamphlets counseled against interracial marriages.
Even Joseph Smith was in the separate but equal camp. Brigham had more extreme views on blacks, but we will see if he is right in the next life. I think Brigham Young was a more advanced prophet than Joseph Smith. Humans were just not ready for the Brigham. He was speaking in Adamic tongue when Joseph Smith met him.
