The Indians (yes, most are actually fine with the term "Indian") were not a single sovereign nation, but rather dozens - even hundreds - of smaller tribal nations. There were some legitimately awful things done to them (like when Washington intentionally wiped out villages of women and children) but the majority of their deaths after colonialism were simply from the unintentional spread of disease, just like with every other country that was colonised. Furthermore, most of the Indian lands were PURCHASED by the colonialists, very little of it was actually conquered.

Some burgers in the South tried but it turns out it's really hard to escape people who are more familiar with the land than you are as they kept successfully getting away.

It was attempted. The natives were found to be fragile and free spirited. Negros were found to be neither, at least once you moved them across the ocean to a place they didn't know intimately enough to effectively run away in.
