So can someone explain to me exactly HOW Gove managed to stab BoJo in the back? What did he have on him?

Under normal circumstances, if Gove said "I'm going to run for PM instead of you!", I'd expect Johnson to reply "errr ... fuck off." What stopped him?

I really thought /pol/ would have the answer to this one.

Probably some other barn animal raping story.

There was no stabbing of backs, the whole thing is a bullshit story.

Boris realised that this term can only end in negative press for the 48%. Boris prizes being popular and "fun" more than anything. So he decided "fuck it". That's all.

Gove was running his campaign and advising him since the beginning of the referendum campaign.

It looks like Gove has been giving him deliberately bad advice since the result in an act of sabotage. For instance, that article Boris wrote in the Telegraph after the result where he seemed to flip-flop on issues was read and edited by Gove before being published. Gove's wife works for Murdock and she leaked an email intended for Gove to the press by "mistake."

Things can't be proven, but either Gove decided Boris couldn't deliver on Brexit - or he's literally Littlefinger and has been playing everyone like a fiddle from day one. All we know for sure is Gove managed to pull all of Boris' support in the party from under him hours before the leadership deadline and nobody saw it coming.
>>
In order to successfully run, you need clout. You get clout in the way of ministers backing your bid for leadership. Gove backed Boris, brining all of his support to Boris' leadership bid. Boris, in those circumstances, stood a good chance. Before Boris got had the opportunity to make a statement on his prospective leadership, two things happened:

1) an email was "leaked" undermining Boris, suggesting that big media moguls supported a Gove-backed Boris, but not Boris alone as they preferred Gove. The email also hinted at Gove having orchestrated the whole thing (it mentioned needing to act quickly, and specifically referenced Boris).

2) Gove announced his leadership bid before Boris, meaning that the Gove-supporting ministers suddenly had to make a decision, and many of them supported Gove in the first place.

This of course needs to be understood in the context of Gove supporting Boris throughout the Leave campaign and, post-Brexit, Boris briefly upsetting Brexiters by, first, not leaving the house or formally addressing the public at a crucial time, and second, by publishing the Telegraph article that looked as though he was buckling down on some of the Leave campaigns more ambitious goals.

Glad to have helped.

When did British politics get so based?

When we saved Europe again.

Tory party hates Boris. Most likely BoJo knew he doesn't have the numbers.

Don't get so excited, exiting Europe hinges on the next leader of the Conservative party and the only one who really wants out is Gove (he says).

He's a slippery bastard but I do believe he legitimately believes we're better off out. He's been eurosceptic for his entire career.

Gove looks like post-chin Roger Ebert

People don't really understand the climate, do they?

In Europe, if Brexit is blocked, the EU will kick us out.

In the UK, the 52% will fight on the streets until it's done.

Neither the UK government nor the EU will ever let this be stopped. The last option the EU has to save itself is the superstate, and they won't ever allow us to be around to halt it.

It seems that Gove and Johnson can drink each others blood but that is all smoke and mirrors.

They never expected leave to win. They didn't even have a plan ready if they did. So May will stall the brexit as long as possible. You can see it on the stock markets. That rebound is the markets knowing a brexit won’t happen soon.

And by the time the next general elections are here they will spin it in such a way that everyone has forgotten about it. By then there is gone be something new that they must deal with first instead of brexit.

Never underestimate how opportunistic the people are. They are vampires.

because Boris is fine with it

The EU isn't going to let this sit undecided for the next 4 years. If you haven't noticed, it's causing chaos in European markets. Every time a politician says something construed as unsettling we'll have a currency crash.
