With the Republican base not supporting him and the way his poll numbers are dropping he will have to get Gingrich. If the Republican Party would just support him he would have this election in the bag.
Gingrich could help Trump get to 90+% support among Republicans.
A lot of the hold-outs are those who don't think of Trump as a true Republican, but Gingrich is more nationally well-known than Sessions or about anyone else in the running, as he was the architect of the "Contract with America" (the big deal of Republicans back in the 1990s).
Moreover, his strengths from experience compensate for Trump's weaknesses. He knows Washington D.C. like the back of his hand, where the bodies are buried and so on so to speak.
I really don't see how anybody other than Gringrich brings as much to the table. He even super disarms the Trump-ignorance attack for the team as a whole.
Plus, he has a tendency not to be hidebound and actually have a vision. People may have mocked his Moon base proposals, but I see nothing wrong with vision.
