Grant, and most other early racialists, developed pretty sophisticated methods of identifying the phenotypic sets which can be loosely defined as "subraces". There are more sophisticated/detailed versions than Grant's general 3-group breakdown (and most spent more time studying Caucasian subraces than Negroid or Mongoloid), but most of the variants in most of the works are the result of admixture between the three, so it's not a bad starting point.
The real issue is that contemporary geneticists are not allowed to study race, so we are left with the unenviable decision of either reconciling and updating these older theories with new breakthroughs individually, or simply ignoring them and starting over from scratch.

There is some slight evidence supporting his "nordicist sop" in that the Doric Greeks were supposed to have migrated into the peninsula from the north and to have been fairer haired and eyed than the Ionic/Mykene Greeks with whom they interacted. The Anatolian and Athenian Greeks were supposed to have been primarily Ionic, whilst the Spartans and Macedonians primarily Doric, and the stereotypes of those respective groups map nicely onto Grant's Nordic v Med stereotypes.
I've never said I consider Grant the gospel truth, merely denied that he claimed "only nordics are white", and I have yet to see proof to the contrary.
