I've known some LDS folks myself (though not LDS myself and never have been, as I am a Baptist fundamentalist), which is probably the only reason I know about what is going on in Utah.
People outside of the state, even Mormons outside the state, are actually surprised when I tell them that their faith is in trouble and that Utah is becoming the next California.
