Gender is a social construct but it's clearly based upon the factual biological differences between the sexes (traditionally men are cast as providers due to physical strength and women as caretakers due to maternal instincts). I guess many feel that this pigeonholes someones personality before their even born and the fact that it's "systemic" makes it contribute to the patriarchy or some shit like that.
