>minimum wage isn't a living wage meme
Why are millennials so incompetent with money spending?

Minimum wage is enough to make you live well, if you're spending it on yourself.

Minimum wage = 10.75$
Average hours per week = 40 hours

That's 1720$ per month.

Remove the 15% tax. You get approximately 1500$ left.

Remove 700$ for an apartment rent.

You're left with 800$.

50 ~ 100$ on food per week.

That's 200$ to 400$ per month, let's round it up to 300$.

You're left with 500$.

Internet + phone = 90$ (50$ internet and 40$ phone)

You're left with 410$

Bus/Subway/Gas = 100 ~ 250$ per month

You're left with 210$

Keep those 210$ for school.

Why is it so hard? Right...because they keep spending a few dollars here and there in the convenience stores...at the mall..on food...on dates...etc.

Stop spending like morons until you get the means to do it. Don't cry about being in debt when you can't manage your money for shit.

Atheists created a consumer culture that they use to worship themselves.

Their fathers and grandfathers did just fine until atheists took over and turned everyone into socialists.

Why work hard, I mean what's the point when you're an atheist. They literally destroyed everything.

Now they'd all rather be socialists who hate hard working rich people.

What apartment costs just $700? One where my fiance is going to get beaten and raped by Jamal?

Factor in the idea that you should have 2 people in an apartment, such as a gf/fiancé/wife/close friend, and then it'll be more appropriate to make the claim that you can live off of minimum wage.

Or maybe if you were intelligent and not peasant to our government, you would argue that the economy is broken because of crony capitalism and exploitation. Also welfare and yadda yadda...

To be fair, it's both atheists and Christians.

Christians are also very socialist in their ideology. There's even a quote in the Bible about securing the poor.
>>

wtf do atheists have to do with this you butthurt retard? look like youre just butthurting and they are a scapegoat to blame when shits not going youre way! blame the jews for societys shekel grabbing they invented it and have been doing it for a thousand years and last i checked they are very religious. youre barking under the wrong tree retard! and you know nothing about atheists so back the fuck up.
>>
>>79203582
You're not even helping your cause here...you're strengthening mine.

By having two people, you're increasing the income far more in proportion with the spending.

That's why people live with roommates and split the bill. At the end of the month, you end up with 400$ more than you would if you were alone.

>>

It's probably proportional in the US. Your food and buses/subway costs less than here.
>>
>>79204354
When I do the same calculation you did, that's $986 a month.
-450 rent (minimum average)
-50 utilities
-300 food
-200 bus or car maintenance and gas
...oh wait, we're already in the hole and we have nothing left. So fuck off with your meme about minimum wage workers not working hard enough, Kathy.
>>
>>79204054
Exactly. I was saying you should incorporate multiple people into your argument because then it would actually work and most people live with others anyway.

>>79203733
No? If you read what I posted you would see that I think the problem is less about whether or not minimum wage is able to be livable on, and more so that the country is being fucked over by immigrants and the ruling globalists and the radical left and George soros and the whole lot of them. Also the fact that an entire ethnic portion of our country is a parasite welfare-wise.
>>
You are forgetting about insurance, healthcare (it isnt 100% free), unforeseen expenses, the ever rising cost of food, maintenance (Car and home), clothing, basics such as toiletries/hygiene/misc. home items such as cutlery and dishwear.

Ok so you have an apartment, with nothing in it.

A car, that could break down at any moment since you will be driving a beater.

You are not taking into account all of the basic things people need to live.

Also, im in a small town and a basic shitbox of an apartment will run you 950$ + without utilities, a shitboc with utilities? 1100-1200/month (LOWEST)

>>
>>79202991
Where did you do your research anon?

Apartment rent is at least $1200 for even a bachelor in any major city. I'm not counting the average, but it's actually $1350.

You're left with $300.

According to you food is $300

You're left with $0.

Internet + phone = $90

You're left with - $90.

TTC Metropass is 130$

You're left with - $220.

And this is before you can enjoy any luxuries like a movie.
>>
>>79202991

Haven't seen a $700 apartment for years.

You left out health insurance, car, car insurance, car maintenance. Because there is no public transport system that gets you where you need to go in the U.S.

Internet packages start at $75/mo and go to $150 quickly. What is internet worth if you don't have a decent computer to use on it?

You also need to budget, at minimum, $150/month in misc. expenses such as various clothes, hygiene & household items, etc. Keeping in mind at all times that you're losing 5% to 10% of all those expenses to sales tax (we call that a regressive tax for a reason ... it fucks you the hardest when you are the poorest).

Oh. Speaking of taxes. No State is going to let you get away without paying State taxes. So that 15% you quoted for Federal (which is actually closer to 20% minimum, BTW) ..? Definitely slice off another 10% minimum, if not 15% to pay your state, your city and your school taxes.

Unless, of course, you are advocating being a tax cheat.

> enough to make you live well
> "live well"

No. Not even what you described. That is barely existence, a perpetual wage slave with no way out. In fact, what you described makes you eligible for food stamps and other welfare because you are now below the poverty line.

I agree with you anon, to a point anyway.

The problem is debt.

I'll give you an example because I am horrible unemployed (make $12.87 an hour but only get around 30 hours/week and can't find a real job.)

I make around 1400 /mo net income.

$700 on rent/utilities
$200 on food
$150 on car insurance
$30 on gas
$100 on phone (I could do a lot cheaper, I know)
$50 gym
=$1230

But wait, I have a $300 payment on my credit card every month because I was an idiot in my second year of school and lived beyond my means!

The end result is that I am bleeding about $100-200 every month. Can't find a second part time job, can't get more hours at my current job, can't find a job in my field. (and it's not like I'm a lazy nigger, haven't been unemployed more than 3 months since 2010 and am willing to do damn near anything except fucking sales.)

So basically what I'm saying is people who whine about minimum wage and shit are people who live beyond their means on credit.

Honestly I agree with you about spending within your means, but the fact is the rent and cost of living are not proportional to the minimum wage. Unless you're a zombie or a masochist, you're not going to enjoy doing mindless work and destroying your body for no savings and no free time. This is the shit they should teach you in public school starting at 9 years old. The economic system needs a complete overhaul because while they value hard labor at basically the same amount as 20 years ago, rent has gone too damn high and other expenses are sickeningly up as well.

As a millennial I pay $300 for my apartment, $43 for my phone and $187 for by insurance, the rat is whatever I want.

Your argument would work better if the previous generations had similar conditions, but a simple search of inflation to wage search reveals that this isn't true. Especially for baby boomers, whose work competition was dead in the biggest war in human history.

Millennials birch because compared to the boomers, they're condition is far worse.

My situation is awesome, I don't work very often, get paid a lot when I do, have $16k in savings, $8k in stocks, a top floor apartment that I split with roommates so I only pay $300 a month, and I can live with my parents whenever I want since their house, which will eventually be given to me, is empty except 1 room.

I don't bitch about being a mellenial, I'm not a filthy scrubby white boy. Lol

DISCLAIMER: DOESNT APPLY TO CITIZEN OF USA.

But, and its a big but, if your effort is not worth more than 10.7/hour its your own fucking fault. In any first world country where education is free you really cant complain about wage.

Why would I pay even 10/h for cleaning, a job that could be done by drooling retard wearing a drool catcher. If you are so low skilled sack of shit that there 24 of yous in a dozen, you really have no right to demand high pay. In Canada it's extremely affordable and the only thing you're really out of pocket for are prescriptions which 90% of your life you don't have to worry about if you are of normal health.

>unforeseen expenses

You may get caught off guard once or twice, but short of getting sued you can usually manage. For example, one time I needed to renew my passport and didn't realize it cost money. Luckily I had put money away from before and then just paid back into my emergency fund.

>clothing, basics such as toiletries/hygiene/misc

I used to be worried about this, but if you take into account the rate at which you used these type of products its literally <$20 a month for deodorant, toothpaste, toilet paper, and a bar of soap.

>home items such as cutlery and dishware

Guess how many dishes a person needs to survive. 1 plate, 1 fork, 1 spoon, 1 bowl, 1 glass. All of which you can pick up at a garage sale or second hand store for dollars.

>Ok so you have an apartment, with nothing in it.

It's a >>minimum<< wage. You don't have money for decor. You don't need a apartment full of shit to live. Also many places come furnished with basic things like a fridge and oven.

>A car, that could break down at any moment since you will be driving a beater.

If you're making minimum wage you shouldn't have a car. It's a luxury. Not only that, it's an expensive luxury after gas, maintenance, and insurance. Get a bus pass for $100/ month (they are actually less if you make less than 25k a year where I'm from). Tax deductible.

>Also, im in a small town and a basic shitbox of an apartment will run you 950$ + without utilities, a shitboc with utilities? 1100-1200/month (LOWEST)

Want to survive on a low wage? Get a fucking roommate or two and live in an area that isn't ridiculously expensive. These pieces of shit think that they deserve to live in fucking center city in their own 1-bedroom apartment to themselves while eating out at trendy restaurants 4 nights a week.

It is actually impossible to support yourself on the minimum wage in the US. Which is why we have so many people on welfare

Certain it's been pointed out, but costs aren't the same everywhere.

Where I live being a single renter is pretty difficult even at $10.75 and hour. Even tiny studios here average $500 a month and most rise up to $650. Normal apartments it's pretty common to see $900+ for just rent.

Though that's just because the specific town I live in is a yuppie shithole. Go outside the town and rent plummets to $300 for a house, you're just now out in the middle of nowhere and have to drive 40 or so minutes to anything.

What good is welfare? They take it away the moment you start working more than 20 hours, regardless of pay rate.

You can only collect food stamps for 3 months out of every 36 unless you work more than an average of 20 hours and makes less than 800 a month.

This has been mathematically proven to be impossible many times. And all the experiments that have been attempted so far to do this using heuristic methods or A.I. have produce lack luster results not fit for industry.

First off, minwage is 8.50 in my state.

Next, you're assuming someone can get a reliable 40 hr week. It's more like this: work get 2 jobs and work 20 at each, job 1 fights for scheduling with job 2 and you end up with 35-45 depending on how managers want to play that week.

Finally, 210 for school? What does that even mean? School costs more than 210 per week. The reality is that this 210 instead goes to fixing shit. Holes in your shoes? Gotta get new ones. Engine light comes on? Gotta fix that.

We can act like all poor people needlessly pissed their cash away and that somehow older generations were just magically better with money, or we can accept the truth. The cost of living is increasing faster than wages and the dollar doesn't go as far as it once did.
>>
>>79213731
He's wrong on the wages hours and rent by a wide fucking mile. Nowhere with minimum wage that high has rent that cheap, and nowhere that does minimum wage gives full 40 hour shifts.
But food is easily doable at $50-100 a week. That's honestly pretty excessive, I managed to get most of my groceries for about $35, and that includes meat and a 6 pack.
>>
>>79213602
How bout you make some money up before you go to school so that won't be a problem and you won't have to worry? Why do you feel so obligated to go to college imminently? The economy is fucked so you should obviously think of a safety net before you do all this shit

You're complaining that life isn't handed to you on a silver platter when you are working bottom of the barrel jobs. Nobody is obligated to make your living on a min wage job a comfy experience. You fucking deal with it and you survive on it.

>So are you saying min wage jobs shouldnt exist in a good city then faggot? every person should move and no one would be there to work those jobs

This would result in a supply shortage and correspondingly, the wages would increase on their own because employers need people to fill those spots. This is how basically every job salary/wage is set.

>first month, bought a puppy, new tv, couldn't afford groceries, her parents had to buy them food
>second month, her bffs boyfriend lost his job, her parents had to pay rent and groceries, got rid of the puppy
>this month
>they decide to buy a $700 puppy, and her boyfriend proposed with a $600 ring, can't afford groceries or rent

They both have jobs.
So they have more income than my gf and I.
Yet they are always fucking broke.
They are huge impulse buyers then wonder where tf their money goes.

My gf carefully budgets EVERYTHING. We cut cable and use Hulu, cut phones because they weren't a necessity so that we would have even ore money at the end of the month.
We have at least $700 left over at the end of the most the after rent, bills, food, etc are paid.

Even though minimum wage is $15 here, many people I know don't have a concept of saving and down it all on fucking drinking. I encourage my friends to save at least 10% but holy shit they don't care. Pathetic.

Aren't things insanely expensive there because everything has to be imported?

I'm against minimum wage, but your numbers are all wrong.

To start with, min wage isn't $10.75

This would be simpler if I was single

The US doesn't want white people to get married and start families. Only Latinos and niggers
>>
>>79213309
Nigga, I live 15 miles outside of SF. It is still outrageous. If having a highly marketable skill set makes me a self-entitled twat, making 110k at 30 years old, then so be it.
>>
>>79217591
Pretty much everything you buy comes at a 15% value added tax (GST). But if you buy anything online that's under $400 you can avoid that tax.

Visiting USA last year really opened my eyes how bad you guys had it there though. I actually didn't know you had to pay tax after purchasing goods. I'd argue that the buying power of the NZD is greater than the USD however, and I'm pretty sure we pay less taxes here considering we don't need to worry about state tax.

I currently rent a two bed room with washer dryer for 1100, and its in the college part of tampa. Yall need to lower your fuck excpectations of where you can live.

>220$ taxes
the last time i paid the less taxes on my salary
>>
I'll redo the math:

At $10.25/hr, working 40hr weeks your take home is about $1400 per month.

>Renting a shit apartment
$800
>$70 per week on food
$280
>Cell phone
$60
>$260 remaining
If you had a car it would all go to gas and insurance expenses.

Now furnish that apartment, entertain yourself, and buy odds and ends. Literally nothing is left and it really sucks considering how much time you are wasting working a shitjob.

NEETs have a point about this. There is no point working unless you're making at least $20-25k/year.
>>
>>79218313
Yeah, sales tax is pretty shit. Also in some states (like the one I'm in) they still tax food sales.
>>
>>79214237
Where the FUCK do you live?
>>
>>79214237
You are high as fuck if you believe this.Taking public transport to my job (San Diego, 15 mile commute) would take 2.5 hours each way.

Well there's your problem.

California is one of the most disgusting places to live.

625 where I am, decent little one bedroom place. The complex is older, but the staff gives more than half a fuck about the place.

That is incorrect. The city I live in and the two cities next to it. Do not have any public transportation.

What percentage of the workforce is that? I cannot believe it is the majority.

as a railroader, even in OCS territory track speed is 45mph, it would take you not even a half hour each way

>indigent care isn't free
Did you travel back in time to the 1800s?
>>
>>79218927
It isn't. In my experience 20-30 hours is the most commonly offered.

I've worked fast food, and of 8 employees only one will be full time, and that's usually reserved to keep the graveyard/night shift guy happy.
>>
>>79218927
A very small percent in Canada. Only industries that get insane hours are miners, oil workers, tradesmen, etc. Service workers and even gov jobs are always temp/part time. The tax returns I do for kids under 30 make me weep. All these hard working goys bouncing between 3-4 jobs every year to make 20k
>>

>>

So we should be calculating based on 20 hour weeks. ~900 dollars a month instead of ~1800

It breaks down almost completely at that point. More than half your money goes to rent even if you have two other room mates.
>>
>>79219198
Have you experienced indigent care?

Enjoy sitting in the "vertical treatment room", i.e. a big shared room full of chairs and Mexicans.

Not even kidding, I've been there. You're better off getting some coconuts and ghettorigging your own IVs.

I sat gagging for an hour with no treatment until I ultimately ruptured vessels in my heart.
>>
>>79202991
Minimum wage would need to be $23/hour if it had kept up with the inflation of the 1960s. Average home was 3 times your annual average income in 1985. Now? 10 times. Productivity? Up. Wages down or stagnant. Why are you a willing Cow Goy Slave?
>>
>poor people are poor because they dont spend their money wisely. I know, because Im rich, I inherited it all.

This is what richfags really believe
>>
>>79219624
Sounds like you have a couple clowns for your room mates.

Of course, if that's the case, I fully sympathize as I have been there and still made it work.

>>
>>79219817
There's truth to "poor people are poor due to poor spending."

Can give a homeless man a million bucks and he'll spend it on bullshit before spending it on stability and growth. Just as you could do the same for some washout college student with a heap of debt.

People aren't taught how to manage finances, just told to chase your dreams regardless of the cost and have to learn finances once their shit actually tanks.

High school, at least senior year, really should be about life skills over more of the same subjects you've been doing since middle school.

Most transit systems offer a monthly pass. It obviously varies between cities, but I've never seen it in excess of $100/month, and that gives you unlimited transit usage.

Minimum wage in Virginia is only 7.25$ faggot. That's not livable.
That's like 1000$ a month.

Cheapest car insurance 100$
Cheapest food budget 200$
That's 700$ right there alone
