Get out in your community and start networking, going to church used to be a good way of doing this but probably less so in the UK. Best way of getting a job is not mailing CV's and hoping yours stands out against thousands of others, its finding out someone is hiring and presenting yourself directly, or via a contact.

40 hour a week at $9/hr usually requires two jobs in America, but it's enough to rent a room, or share an apartment. You'll be stuck with biking/public transport/uber as your only methods of transportation, usually.

The first step is to get your advanced mathematics and statistics knowledge. You can use mit open course ware for this, most of the text's are on google in pdf form.
Then you can get into the theory, read: security analysis, intelligent investor, alchemy of finance, options as a strategic investment, technical investing statistics. There's lots too read.
Next you start off with a practice account. Work with it for about a month or so, then if you do well move onto a real account with around $1000. As you progress you will become more and more comfortable, and then you should save up $10,000 to invest with.
