Yes its pretty hard. Tons of classes, books in latin and shit. One could argue a doctor in field probably wont use much of those in action but you have to know them incase of any sitatuion. But they are for mostly research doctors.

>getting 10k$ salary monthly
Only the very senior doctors earn that much. Starting salary, for junior doctors who just graduated, is around 30k-36k per year.
>college was nice cause tons of good girls going for it . tons of sex during years
The girls who are studying for medicine are usually extremely career focused and committed to study. If they are not committed they will fail a very difficult course. They are the polar opposite of party gurlz who go clubbing every weekend.
>during work fucking tons of nurses, giving orders to medic and hospital workers.
That is just not true. Nurses are worked to death, as are the doctors. You don't have time to talk casually. Doctors and nurses also have breaks at different times and operate within different social circles at work. Though it is totally possible to start a relationship with a nurse it's not like it's open season.
>even sometimes fuck patient related people(moar if you work in psych)
If you want to lose your job in a hurry, then by all means fuck a patient...
>its universal job , you can do where were you want
You have to be fluent in the language of the country you are moving too, an I mean fluent. Doctors receive extremely technical information the world over, it is massively important that the information is understood.
>not depends on computers or whatever fuck , you can still work when electric goes of
Hospitals have their own power supply. Performing a diagnosis without an electrical piece of equipment is considerably more difficult. You would have an awful lot more errors in diagnosis.
>everybody on society respect you
True, to a point.
>everybody likes you , kids like you , old people likes you, etc.
That isn't entirely true. Pretty much all of society wants the best, most senior, doctor to perform a task (sometimes even a simple one).
>comfy nice shifts that you can chat talk with people and watching tv at hospital
You clearly don't know the job at all. You are always in demand (ALWAYS).

Like people here said, if you're not in it because of helping people or because the field fascinates you you're wasting your time. It takes way too much time and effort otherwise, even the job security isn't a good enough reason to pursue this over a trade.

I'm finishing up a 4 year degree in Biology and building my resume by volunteering, then planning to go through either the army or airforce to become a surgeon. Loans won't be a problem since they not only pay for everything but also provide a monthly stipend during school and officer pay during breaks.

Highly recommend going that route if you're looking to be a doctor in the states, since all you have to do in return is work for them as a doctor, meaning you get to do your residency under them which is pretty cool.
>>

Working for the justice department may be tricky if you are not a citizen.

>Why is medical school difficult to get into?
Speaking about the US system - medical schools and medical school admissions are tightly controlled by the American Medical Organization. Our population has increased significantly over the last 50 years, but we have not expanded our medical education system to compensate, because the AMA wants to keep salaries high. So, increasing numbers of qualified students want to get in to med school, but the number of slots they are competing for has remained the same for 50 years.

Why do so many students want to become doctors? Again, speaking about the US, it's a high prestige career that everyone understands and knows about from an early age, and there is a well laid out pathway of steps to follow.

What do doctors even do that requires high intellect?
Not much once they finish school.

3.42 (yeah, I know I fucked up).

That places me exactly at the 25th gpa percentile for Georgetown and below the 25th for most every other t14 as far as I can tell.

I can get letters of rec from a Cornell (undergrad) Northwestern (first two years of law school) Berkeley (last year of law school) lawyer that I interned for a year and have a good relationship with.

Also with professors who got their phd from Stanford and UCLA.

I have a decent bit of work experience as well.

And I'm a white american citizen taking a gap year to teach english to Coreans.

Its money, most of the doctors do not care about their patients at best or openly despise them at worst.

>>79163741
That 3.42 is really going to hurt you.

#1 thing you should do is apply Early Decision to Northwestern. If they accept you then you receive a 150k scholarship but you are locked in to attending their school.

Georgetown is really not that great, look at their employment stats compared to the rest of the T14: http://www.lstscorereports.com/schools/gulc/

If you are set on the T14 I still think Cornell and NU are your best options. Otherwise you could probably get a full or close to full scholarship in a T25 in your home market - depending on where that is.

check out www.top-law-schools.com if you haven't yet.

This is a useful tool for predicting your chances of admission: http://mylsn.info/jrbz7q/ (I've plugged in your gpa and lsat already)

Part 1/3
I went to medical school in the U.S. My entire life was shit. I lived like a fucking peasant and was in debt up to my eyeballs, eating cheap shitty food, living month to month worried about where my next months rent was coming from. Just study and sleep and work my near-minimum-wage temp job.

I was at a very "top level" medical school. One of the top 5 best in the world supposedly. Sorry if this sounds like bragging or bullshit, but I don't consider it so impressive because everything was such shit. All our equipment was crap.....ancient, rusty, uncalibrated. Rusty dull scalpels. Labs were filthy. This was a school with an endowment in the tens of billions and we were using equipment that looked like something from the dark ages. Who know where all that money went/goes? I'm honestly afraid to ask.

People treated cadavers very unrespectfully. I guess this is "black humor" or stress release, but come on, these people were thoughtful enough to give their bodies for research -- there is no need to hack off some guys penis and walk around with it hanging out of your coat laughing hysterically like a 12-year-old. I'm not even going to go into the rumors about how the female bodies were treated.

Professors and docs never gave a shit about us. Have a question? Go fuck yourself, kid. Know the answer already or GTFO. Everyone from students to docs were overworked and in a perpetual haze of lack of sleep. The amount of pill-popping and even hardcore drug injection by doctors is off the hook. I met "elite" doctors who had been drug addicts for 40 years. Nurses were mentally unstable sluts. The worst were the neuro students. Supposedly the "best and the brightest," right? Some of them were literally smoking crack. They were booting up all these bizarre designer drugs they made. You better hope if you get brain surgery it's not some genius-lunatic who has been high on synthetic "whatever" for 72 hours straight before he cuts into your frontal lobes.

>Its money, most of the doctors do not care about their patients at best or openly despise them at worst.

Doctors don't make nearly as much as they used to. Specialists can do fairly well, but your average internist is only making $150k or so in the US. That translates to around $75/hr. There are a hell of a lot of ways to bill at that kind of rate with far less education and debt, if money is all it's about.

Part 2/3
Constant backstabbing. For example, I took one course where you could drop your homework papers in a little box outside the prof's office. I started getting "zeros" for not returning my work. Then I figured out one of my asshole fellow students was going there in the dead of night with a wire bent coathanger, fishing out assignments from the box slip, and throwing them away. Because the course was on a graded curve, he only picked out and destroyed the papers of students who were doing better than him. I tried explaining this to the professor but he basically told me to fuck off. Handed in my papers personally after that.

Pretty much everyone was completely insane in one way or another. Plus the people attracted to medicine (especially at "elite" schools) are mostly sociopaths or even psychopaths obsessed with status and competition. Either become one yourself or GTFO.

There is a lot more I could say...I saw some behavior that was ethically questionable if not downright illegal when it came to deciding when to declare people "beyond saving."

Part 3/3
I took a look at my future as a doctor and as far as I could see it was madness in every direction. Beyond what I have described there is the whole issue of dealing with patients, many of whom are simply assholes who think they know more than they do because of some shit they read on the Internet. You can get sued for any reason or no reason at all. Doctors are mentally warped by this -- many are addicts or alcoholics, wife beaters, abusers of their own kids. Humans were not meant to live like this.

So I decided to use my degree to become a "consultant." The stress and insanity are less but there are ethical pressures relating to money that have caused me many sleepless nights and made me start to hate myself.

Finally I left medicine entirely and just went into "resarch." The pay is shit but at least I don't have some drug-addled resident squirting bloody lung-chunks all over me because she cut the wrong vein, or have to spend my days figuring out how to cheat sweet old ladies out of money. After nearly 20 years I finally feel sanity returning.

Unfortunately it's a pretty shitty job with tons of stress, not great money, and tons of debt. No one respects doctors in America anymore. The Jews have turned them into essentially drug pushers for their pharmaceuticals.

I work in healthcare, and I have absolutely no problems leeching a $50k salary off these kikes and barely producing any work. I hate my job. I hate the us healthcare system. And I hate likes.

Political Science not difficult at all.

I know admissions won't care about this but I did dual enrollment in hs so I was in college from when I was 18-20 basically.

I was an alcoholic for the entire time- for the last year and a half or basically any time I wasn't in class I was downing mouth wash. I would basically get black out drunk 7 days a week (my record is 3 times a single day). Before I went too far off the deep end I did have some decent things to put on my resume (multiple jobs/internships often run concurrently), I was on my universities boxing team for a year, I ran a sub 2:50 marathon when I was 17 etc. etc. after I graduated I spend 13 months working shitty jobs while interviewing for paralegal gigs etc.

Nothing went through, spent the last three months working for a shitty ins. agency, quit that because fuck the people I was working for, spend four months studying for the lsat, took it, flew out to Korea.

So yeah.

I'm about 7 months sober right now and I have zero plans of ever drinking again.

I'm sure I can dress up my resume to make it sound a little more difficult (I had a concentration in Political economy which required some economics/math classes) but it really was pretty easy and I'm sure any halfway decent admissions officer can see that (although I have heard that the UW- where I did my undergrad- has made a real effort to combat grade inflation so that may help me? I don't know?)

if you have a 3.42 in engineering physics or a 3.42 in music theory you will have the same chances of admission. Letters of recommendation don't matter either.

The only things that affect your chances are crafting an effective narrative in your personal statement or having good work experience / accomplishments. Even then it is fairly minor.

If you dual majored in aerospace engineering and physics at a top tier undergrad and wound up with a 3.3 or something I'd bet money that you have a better shot at getting in than a kid who studied some horseshit like political science and got a 4.0.

The whole college GPA system makes me very mad though.

Started off doing SFM way back in 12'. Did some porn and when my modelling skills were adequate enough I moved on to making my own models so companies don't sue. I also got my girlfriend to voice the women in my animated work and started a patreon for the both of us.

Once you're aware that your customers are all going to be basement-dwelling virgins they're easy to take advantage of. It's a hilariously easy adult industry to break into once you know what you're doing.

You know those anons on /co/ who obsess over the rabbit in Zootopia? They exist and are actually quite serious to a creepy degree. I was comissioned by a furry once to animate her giving head to his OC (that I only modelled the groin and legs of because I can't be arsed to make the entire thing) for about $900.

Sounds too good to be true, right? Furries are basically the "whales" of the industry. They're hard to reel in, but once you do they're willing to overspend on anything since they have so much fucking disposable income. ESPECIALLY when it comes to their original characters since they're so desperate about wanting to become famous.

At the moment I'm working on a lot of Overwatch shit. That's the next big thing people obsess over and it rakes in some good money. Most animators don't give a shit about the game, we just love how obsessed it's fans are.

Also I can't do that, lad. It's bad for business.

The difference between US and Euro healthcare is like heaven vs. hell. In the US a doctor is basically a god. Like someone respected by all, who makes up to 300k USD, drives the fanciest cars and bangs the hot bitches.

European doctors all are a part of the greater system, they are cogs. Pay them 60K, they have to work in a bombed out rat infested hospital built post WWII, with hardly any benefits.

Its a rigged system because we charge through the ass for everything, so the USA is expensive AF and can afford to pay doctors large salaries.

>tfw fell for the doctor meme
I've come to realize the grim reality that society has memed doctors into this high status so they can convince smart people to do it. If you were actually smart, you would be successful as an entrepreneur and could do work that shakes up the status quo. But the (((elites))) don't want smart people completing with them, so they trap smart people into doctor life so they can slave away and help the mulatto underclass reproduce.
>>
as highly as society views doctors, i view them more as gold-digging nerds that didn't know any better way to make more money (and most of them aren't as rich as you think they are)

more than half the shit that a typical doctor does is something even an untrained/uneducated person could do and have a fairly high success rate, including diagnosing the illness, finding the correct medicine, moderate surgeries, etc. people have been doing it that way for thousands of years and it was for the most part fine (except people were dirtier, infections happened slightly more often ((as if they don't happen these days either))

i mean have you ever gone to a doctor? you tell them your symptoms, they take a guess at what your shit is, then they go back to a medical encyclopedia (or google) and confirm it and then just follow the instructions and medication. the 8 years and 250k of debt they accumulated is of no use in that scenario

even taking someone blood's test and figuring out how healthy/unhealthy they are is something an average person could do with the help of google

now if you're a fucking heart transplant surgeon it's a different story, but there's only a couple hundred of those in the entire world

Personally, I'd like to change the world for the better, even if it only means helping a few people here and there throughout my lifetime.

The thing is, the more you educate yourself about the world, the more you realize that we humans have got life down wrong. Big Pharma is a perfect example of this; making sick people sicker for profit. This happens all day, every day, in the entire world. Some places it's just less than others, for example: here in vikingland there's a list of doctors who openly get paid by big pharma through EU, so we the people can choose to see a doctor that isn't all about shoving pills down your throat for huge bonus'.

Thing is, if you want to work around the establishment as an average joe, you are going to have to hustle your way out of it. But weirdly enough, if you know how to make good money on the black market, and use the profit as a kickstarter for your business, nobody from the state is going to touch you. Because they know the world is super fucked.

All in all, become a millionaire no matter what it takes, but atleast try to change the world for the better while you are doing it. Otherwise the world will just become more of a shithole, and we are so close to getting out of the one our ancestors dug us into.
>>
>>79173813
Yeah that guy is retarded. The first thing a doctor does when he is not sure what diagnostic to fill in is to send you to an MRI or a CAT scan. Imaging equipment has became a crutch for them.

>more than half the shit that a typical doctor does is something even an untrained/uneducated person could do and have a fairly high success rate
>you tell them your symptoms, they take a guess at what your shit is, then they go back to a medical encyclopedia (or google) and confirm it and then just follow the instructions and medication.
Doctors don't just "guess". Most diseases don't follow a fucking checklist, and even the internet is not big enough to account for all the possible history and PE findings a doctor would find in every patient. That's why medical students are trained and exposed to actual patients to sharpen their clinical eye and account for every little possibility to come up with the best diagnosis and management possible. You can see the difference between a 2nd year medical student with full access to his iphone and wifi compared to an intern with no equipment whatsoever when both look at the same patient. 9 times out of 10 the intern will get the diagnosis AND the correct management while the student will not only get the wrong diagnosis but also won't even be able to start treatment because you can't just google "how to give [insert medicine here]". And if a medical student, or even a group of them, who would have at least a vague idea of how to diagnose a patient, would have some difficulty, how do you think mouthbreathers like you would compare?

You have no fucking clue what you're talking about. A good doctor does a lot more than simply guess what is wrong with a person. Take my friend, for instance. She was hospitalized with pneumonia for the third time in her life. She once had a bout of SJS, a necrotizing allergic skin reaction. She also had serious allergies.

I thought it over as she mentioned her symptoms, and told her to get checked for selective IgA deficiency, which perfectly fits her constellation of illnesses but is too unusual to be picked up be a physician that is looking at just one thing at a time. Next day, sure enough, she has almost undetectable levels of IgA. I told her to make sure that she mentions this before any surgeries, because if she requires blood products, there is a chance she will have an anaphylactic reaction to them, in addition to warning her of all the signs and symptoms of other diseases she is likely to encounter because of her condition.

I have another friend I was able to diagnose with LH receptor deficiency based on history alone that now stands a chance of getting pregnant because I was able to steer her in the right direction.

I had another friend whom I noticed his nails were clubbed, and in passing mentioned that he should see a doctor. He was a heavy smoker- I knew that chances were it was cancer. Sure enough, I was right. Didn't want to be the guy to break it to him.

Being a doctor is about knowing not just what a symptom is, but which ones are signal and which ones are noise. A good doctor can put a bunch of nonsense together and come to a conclusion that is off the radar of anyone haplessly googling. As to treatment, most of us actually know the treatments by heart, as well as several alternate treatment modalities for unusual situations. Any idiot can do the normal treatment in a normal situation, but you'd be surprised how many people don't fall into the normal boxes. And don't even get me started on abnormal presentations...

Most don't, in my experience. They just repeat the easily-digested AMA guidelines on a particular topic. It's rare that I meet a medical professional that can answer questions in-depth. >constantly see shitty patients that have conditions like DM because they can't take care of themselves
>Lost youth to constantly studying
>Constantly moving around and can't form lasting relationships with people due to training.
>Nurses are largely obese.

Great career.

Its not really high intellect but the coursework can be difficult. Being "smarter" helps you in the training process and they want to carefully screen who can do it and who will drop out. Lots of care goes into training a doctor and they don't want you to fail/drop the idea just as you graduate.

Because the spots for residency and training is limited and controlled by gov funding largely, schools can only take so many people. Makes an artificially (not a bad thing, necessarily) low supply so competition is fierce.

700k but you're 50 or so by the time you see that.

Neurosurgery is soul-killing and the training takes like 7 years. Which you're making 60k as a resident.

Emergency is +$250k as a fresh attending (graduated resident), is 3 years, and you can go largely anywhere afterward. Sometimes make $400k starting if you're in a high need area. And make that for longer upping your equity before a neurosurgeon is even done with his training.

No thanks. I'll stick to my six figure job after 3 years of a CS degree.

Why does he dislike it? Out of curiosity.

From what I get from the older crowd is regulation is taking the fun out of the job. Lots of older docs never had to deal with EMR's and increased paperwork and they think it kills the love for it.

>Either become one yourself or GTFO.

This isn't necessarily true.
I met lots of good people in school. There's honest people who just want to be a family doc or something - which is a modest goal in the field.

If you do a primary care specialty you can have the life you largely want without fucking people over. Honestly the highly competitive fields aren't worth it unless you cant see yourself doing anything else. Also, after a Primary care residency you can do a fellowship and get that extra "prestige" without being cutthroat.

The issue with medicine being competitive is that they attract people who are driven by competition. You aren't getting people that necessarily belong in the field, but it is what it is. Medicine is getting better about selective compassionate students who are probably the best they've seen yet - not only smart and competitive (the only requisite you needed before) but actually sociable and caring.

Still lots of douchebags though.

Meh. Depends if you get a scholarship.

I also got into Georgetown. No scholarship tho.

Ended up going to engineering school for very cheap instead of 200k debt for a meme law degree.

Now I actually do something I like and wont have to work years just to pay off debt.

What do you do?

Any reason why? That's an old classic male profession. I think I'd have my own network of saloons by then by the way. >>79186782
It's too much responsibility, takes a lot of time to get to real money and you are always under the threat to lose, if you make a mistake. Doctors are noble and courageous people, even if they do it for shekels.

This man can be totally right but you just have to know about this and guard yourself. I plan on boxing myself in by taking a hospital job.

The lack of autonomy is shitty and having superiors, but you can largely let the hospital deal with the fallout of malpractice suits and not have to be incentivized by doing more procedures for the extra money, as you become a salaried doc. I definitely plan on leaving the field sooner than 10 years in it. I think it'll kill before that. Or at least move to a cushier kind of job like allergy.

I spent a good portion of my 20's and early 30's interacting with those guys and I can safely say that nearly all of them are either in IT or finance. They make 70+k and spend a substantial amount of it on their perverted interests.

I was in a guild on WoW with one guy about two years ago who was an equities analyst for one of the big companies. He was a huge furry and weeb who constantly and shamelessly talked about how he'd spend at least 2k a month on commissions for his furry OC's. All things considered he was a nice guy just a massive sperg with no social skills. To this day I still wonder how the fuck he got through the interview for that job in the first place unless he knew someone.

On topic: I have a pretty good amount of interest in medicine but I'd never want to be a doctor. Maybe in another life but now I'm too old to start med school and I'm fairly comfortable where I am.

Not to mention in EM you are paid per hour so the more you work the more you get paid. Also I have heard some EM doctors can get paid up to 250$/hr. Pretty good my man.

Surgeons have the highest suicide rate of any profession. This includes the big bucks us docs

I'm studying Medicine at Liverpool right now. Medical students are one of two ways, either extremely focused and have no social lives or the complete opposite. Medics arrange loads of night out and have a reputation of getting mortal all the time
