We live in an age of unbridled technology, exponential population growth, and dwindling oil. Think about how much of the modern world is based on petroleum.. tires can't be produced, jet engines can't run, hundreds of pharmaceuticals cannot be made, fertilizers, etc.. the list goes on and on. We are in a period where we haven't hit that crisis point where increasingly growing demand meets shrinking supply, and the stuff becomes impractical to the budget of the average person.
