The same thing that ruins everything in society... Women.

Cheap smartphones and social media made it so any annoying faggot can be on the internet 24/7. There used to be a barrier of entry (not a huge one but it was there) and now everyone can get on no matter where they are.

Hence the dumb broads and nigs all over the place.

Three waves of normies.
>1993: AOL offers free Usenet access, ruins it forever with morons and spammers
>2001: Windows XP offers normies a networked OS that doesn't fall on its ass every six hours and includes a vague approximation of a web browser(IE6). 90s web ruined forever.
>2007: the iPhone, and the three billion normies that followed on mobile.

This. Internet used to be something nerds, freaks, shut-ins, and geeks were into like video games used to be. Now every dumb cunt and their mom has access and can spew their dumb opinions.

Lots of good answers but the only true answer is the same answer to what ruined anything.

POOR PEOPLE
>>
>>79135492

The internet was always bad.

The problem is that old people somehow thought it was serious and tried to use it for practical reasons.

Now it's a shit show.

not only tech and gamer geeks but also the remainder of early netizens was made up of content creators like musicians, artists, the occasional savvy business owners, etc., plus a bunch of kids who kept themselves mostly confined to chat rooms and p2p clients

then the consumer class showed up and turned the whole thing into a massive trailer park full of gossip, drama, clickbait, and vanity

I remember back in the 90s, there would always be commercials of some charity handing out laptops the size of suitcases to remote tribes, like the kind of people that were cannibals 50 years ago. They'd be video chatting with some classroom in Kansas. Not that this shit was actually happening, but it was a glimpse into the future.

That future didn't happen. Instead we have mandatory government insurance marketplaces, casinos, and craigslist. We turned the Internet into Detroit.

TV found out about the internet and ruined it by trying to target the internet audience, but ended up attracting normies into "nerd" circles.

Now a bunch of comic companies are trying to get the SJW audience, Comic Con is a packed and expensive as fuck hollywood expo that is a bitch to get into, Sci-fi channel is now SyFy and has more shows about "lol, ghost hunting" and "lol, geek culture" than actual Science Fiction, and the internet is littered with dumb asses, whether they be idiots on facebook, or neo-feminist cunts on Tumblr with their cretin followers.

So, we got so far: Normies, sluts, casuals, the unchosen various and all of them brought by the massification of internet making it unwiser and unproper.

>Commercialization. Monetization.

as an example of the ruination, notice how in the 90s there would always be a list of other sites the owner liked. and those sites had the same. you would go from site to site seeing various creations. that was surfing. now, sites don't link to other sites because that is basically moving traffic away and all links are generally internal. you don't go anywhere. there are still aggregators, still some non-commercial personal sites, etc. but this shit is crap

second post best post

>first came the normie wave of mums and dads
>forums! Can we have an OT board please (and maek me a mod???!!)
>avs OMG! (avatars)
>babbys first pirated content - napster/Gnutella

Then their normie children
>I.M.
>early social media
>my fucking space
>"profiles", "profile pics"
>liveJournal
>blogger

Then the tide of normies late to the Web2.0 party along with their offspring
>KikeBook
>Twatter
>Tumblr
>instagram

Apps are the new normie spawnponds. The "desktop" Web has actually quieted down and the old forums without "an app" have got rid of many casuals.

I really miss the Geocities age, when shit was personal and everyone's profile was unique from anyone else, but now that's all gone... sad Irony is that tumblr is probably the only major social network with this kind of Uniqueness.

Really sucks that when Geocities died, all the people in the Web 2.0 side cheered and wanted it gone, many generations of web history just lost because a bunch of fucking normies didn't see value in it. It's the equivalent of many societies just disappearing before our eyes, and we don't even care one bit.

This. The internet is perhaps the only thing that has ever been better when everyone on it was underage. I really feel sorry for people in their 20s or younger who never experienced the old internet where everyone had to take affirmative action to get on it, there were only small communities, and no one cared what went on. I am still in a group that came from a forum that no longer exists (at least not in its past state) and I'm not sure how I'd come up with the same sorts of friends now.
