Because most of the immigrants that arrived here after America's creation were hard working and knew they'd get rewarded for their hard work. As a result, they were paid well, were able to buy homes, create families. They earned it through sweat, blood and tears.
All we really have coming into America anymore are people here to take advantage of what those immigrants built, while fake Americans scream 'THERE'S POWER IN DIVERSITY!'. And, here's the funny part: you'd be right. There's power in diversity if everyone chips in, pulls their weight, and betters themselves and their peers.
Unfortunately, you can't have a nation full of people that do nothing, literally carried on the backs of the people that work hard. This is why Europe is disintegrating (though they insist that's not the case, of course), this is why the UK is a shadow of its former self, this is why Africa is a cesspit, and finally, this is why Mexico and South America will never recover unless there's major political, societal and scientific change.
America's quickly heading in that direction. If we stay the course we're on, you may well get to live to see America disintegrate in your lifetime.
