NK would likely win in such a war, they have a million + troops while US has around 400k. But the US never plays the ground war, they always bomb everything down until there's nowhere left to hide and then go in with tanks to reduce what's left to dust, and then they go in with boots.

The US would reinforce and maintain the South Korean border, while simultaneously bringing in our Pacific fleets to blockade and pacify the surrounding waters. Air support would quickly be gained and their million man army would be fodder for the planes and their bombs.
Nuclear war is the only reason we don't drag Kim out of his palace right now and parade him bloodied and naked on our streets.

If the DPRK doesn't get Chinese support unlike the Vietnamese did or like they did in the first Korean war they wouldn't last for a month simple as that
50% of the Nork army would defect the second they got past the DMZ.
Then half of the remaining force would defect the second they reached a South Korean grocery store or hospital and realize they've been lied to their entire lives.
The remaining bit would be wiped out because they have no ammo, piss-poor Soviet surplus, and absolutely terrible training by NCOs who have never seen combat, who in turn were trained by an officer corps that hasn't seen combat since the 1950s.

The reason the West doesn't want fight the Norks isn't because the West would lose...
It's because the US-ROK would win and would have to absorb those millions of people and repair their infrastructure, still stuck in the 50s.
ROK couldn't economically handle unified Korea.
Don't know why anyone is comparing it to Vietnam. It would be an entirely different situation, little to no support to NorK, and our politicians wouldn't be sending our soldiers into guerilla jungles knowingly unprepared. We'd find an immediate excuse to enact using big boy bombs as soon as we made new, special deals with SouK.

The North Koreans really don't have a functioning air force... the US have defacto air superiority from day one, without even the need for SEAD... The North Koreans will really just get bombed to shit, it'd be a a bloodbath so bad it's not hard to imagine Americans having a crisis of conscience.
