I actually agree that trade agreements shouldn't be left to referendums though. I'm not a big fan of direct democracy in general and totally believe that the majority of people that voted on brexit on both the leave and stay side had no idea what the fuck they were talking about. It's too complex and big an issue to be left up to referrendum.
Generally I mostly support referendums for things like electoral reform, because in that context the government can't be trusted to make a decision because the party in power is only ever going to reform the system to something that benefits them. I'm not against referendums just when they don't benefit the left, weedman here in Canada would love to shove through electoral reform without a referendum here, but the lefties are actually right that having a referendum on something as complex as brexit is retarded because your average voter is only going to look into the issue for a few minutes which isn't nearly enough time to have any idea if brexit is good or bad.
Representative democracy works better than direct democracy, and brexit was a bizarre place to make an exception in favor of direct democracy.
