It's a slippery slope, that's the concern. The US/Israel are concerned that if they give any power to the Palestinians, they'll take advantage of it and use that to beat them. When you think of it, the state of Palestine has been condensed into such a small area that its incredibly easy to control. Had they given them these "basic human rights", they wouldn't be able to have insight as to their actions and be able to plan their actions accordingly. As long as Israel has Palestine completely surrounded and isolated, they're guaranteed success in the upbringing of the state of Israel, and that's why their spread has been so effective.
