The mark of the beast will be given out soon after. It will be required to function in society, at all. No ifs or buts. This isn't something you can ignore and still take part in civilization. So, what will the mark of the beast be?
It could be a chip.
It could be a counterfeit of God, just like much of the Antichrist will be; A counterfeit trinity, a counterfeit religion, etc...
That means it could be a counterfeit baptism.
It could also be a counterfeit eternal life.
Think about it.
If the image of the beast is an object given Sentient AI...
"Immortality" through machines will be possible.
A false promise of eternal life. Counterfeit eternal life.
And humanity will line up for it. Combined with disasters and famines, it may be the only option to not starve and die out.
So people will take it... and they will join this virtual world, leaving their bodies, and they will either die or be engulfed in a delusion that will end during the second coming. A matrix if you will.
Those who try to survive outside of this computerized world nightmare will be hunted down and killed, and nobody who took the mark, the counterfeit immortality, will know.
