Tuvans have nothing to do with Turks, they are literally Mongolians. They are known for 2 things:
1) always carrying knives around, even in the fucking army where they check on everybody's belongings weekly they manage to sneak in shivs, every single one of them
2) being Africa tier illiterate fucks

Oh, probably this morning in the mirror.

Modern Anatolian Turks and modern Mongolians have nothing to do with each other if that's less triggering for you.

Turks plagiarized all of Mongolian culture

It's true Turkic people have an origin from those areas, but it would be like French people today being proud of things Swedish/Norweigan people doing (since Normans are descendants of Vikings, hence all French people are also Scandinavian)

>>78832136
It's complicated. I hate the Ottomans, but truly respect actual Turkic people. I guess it's the Arab/Muslim component in the Ottomans that makes them unlikeable.

Does your Turkic affinity make you associate yourself with the Ottomans, or do you simply identify as somewhat Turkic? I'm asking because most Turks I've interacted with seem to identify as Mediterranean/Anatolian before they even think about Mongol/Turks/Siberians.

Also, where were you born? In the central/eastern parts of Turkey I assume?
>>
>>78833019

For me Ottomans were 5/10 at best actually, but I accept Ottoman Era as part of our history, can't deny that.

From what I seen most Turks define themselves as "pureblood 100% Turk etc" rather than Anatolian(even if it's true that most of them are genetically closer to Anatolians), but I'm actually fine with that, I rather see them accepting themselves as Turks instead of Arabs or "Ottomans". Turkish nationalism is the cure for Islam, that's why Atatürk forced it.

As a side note, there is no such a word as "Turkic" in Turkish language, we all call those people as Turks.

>where were you born?
My dad is a tatar from Eskişehir, mom is a Yörük from Muğla.

>Turkish nationalism is the cure for Islam, that's why Atatürk forced it.
Couldn't agree more. I respect Ataturk for creating the more secular Turkey and for removing the Arab element from it.

>As a side note, there is no such a word as "Turkic" in Turkish language, we all call those people as Turks.
The differentiation is something like German vs Germanic. For example, Sweden is Germanic, but not German. From a grammatical standpoint, it would probably be more correct to call Turkish nationals "Turkish", rather than simply "Turks", but since "Turk" is generally correlated with Turkey/Turkish nationals, Turkic is often used to describe the more general Turkic ethnicity (ie. including Uyghurs, Tuvans, Tatars, Turkmen, etc.).

They are Turks, of course, but it gets a bit confusing when the intention is to describe their cultural heritage rather than their ethnicity.

Thanks for the info. I've had more interaction with Turks closer to the coastlines. I always thought the Turks of more authentic Turkic ancestry were a bit deeper into Anatolia. Didn't realise specific denominations like Yörüks and Tatars were relatively westwise.

Their anthem is pretty cool too.

Also if you are interested in learning about Old Turkic religion/Tengrism I recommend you to take look at it, It's pretty fun to read and learn. It's actually way better and way more deep than Islam, shame that we stopped practicing it, but at least we still have some cultural elements like pic related.

Mate, that's how I feel about the Greek national religion. Would much rather we had maintained it instead of Christianity. Like you guys, we integrated some of its features in Orthodoxy (unlike the other Christian denominations), so I'm at least glad for that.

Will definitely take a look in Tengrism. I've always been interested to see where Shamanism derives from and how it was actually practiced. Seems rather unique, outside the spectrum of the more common Abrahamic- and Hinduistic-based faiths.

>>

I've read about Platonism and Pythagoreanism like 1-2 years ago while I was learning about Hermeticism(I find Trismegistus as a really interesting figure), they were really deep, unique and mystical. (Will definitely read about them more when I get time, got an elibrary about them) Greeks were really good on thinking and theorizing. That's why Ancient Greece and Rome are one of my favourite civilizations.

Anyway, I gotta go now, cya later m8.

I guess you could call Central Asians part of the Turkic peoples, even though they're just as closely related to the Xiongnu than they are to the Turks. Most of them only adopted Islam because the Mongols adopted Islam lite back in the 1400's and 1500's. A lot of them still drink alcohol, and eat pork when they can.

that's because there's three denominations of Turkic people. Kıpçak( Kazakhs, Tatar and other Chink lookings), Karluk(Uzbeks and Uygurs) and Oğuz (Turks, Azerbaijani and Turkmens).

Oğuz is next to İran and they're influenced from them.

Turks are the descendants of the Xiongnu, East Scythians, and proto pooinloos. That does not make the Xiongnu descendants (Kazakhs, Uzbeks, Tatars) Turkic. That's a stupid classification. It would be like me calling the Arabians European peoples just because our ancestors divulged only 15k years ago.

And yes, I'm saying that just because they mixed with Proto-Turkic peoples doesn't make them Turkic. Euros, Arabs, Persians, and Pooinloos all came from the Proto-IE peoples, but you would not call a Persian as a German, or an Italian as a Bangladeshi.

>>
>>78845783
Ethnic groups take their names from the dominant culture. All of them, except the more insignificant, are melting pots of more than one proto-people, but one culture and language always dominates others.

For instance, do you also think Bulgarians aren't Slavic? They technically descent mainly from Thracian phyla, and yet they are speak a Slavic language and have a Turkic-based name (Bulgar).

What about the Greeks? Are they Middle Eastern, considering that the J2 component that came from the Minoans makes for about 1/3rd of Haplogroups? Or maybe they are North African, considering E1b1b (also at about 1/3rd) comes from there and was actually the earliest Haplogroup in the region (via the Pelasgians)? The R1a/R1b component from the actual proto-Greeks is merely at about 1/3rd itself, so why are Greeks considered European?

There are many ways in which ethnic groups can be related. Genetically, linguistically, culturally, etc. Language and culture are the best ways of distinction. That's why you see Cypriots be considered Greek, or Sardinians be considered Italian, despite the fact that genetic relation is only partial.

Mongol/Tuvan folk music is definitely best Asian traditional music.
