They viewed themselves as a third position outside of the left/right spectrum as this is man made spectrum and causes uneccessary division.
They believed 'Nationalism' and 'Socialism' were the exact same thing, you could not achieve one without the other, therefore they are both the same in their political thinking.
They were both left and right, its really a lot more complicated than simple spctrum based politics.
