This is truly a pathetic display.

And they have literally announced that they would veto it.

to be fair, at the time they didn't know they'd be forced to leave the EU

The last Scottish referendum had the Scots in a much better position, because Westminster weren't about to go head first into the void and leave the EU. Scotland's indepedence was largely gonna be bolstered by some kind of deal with Westminster to try and keep things like the Pound, and some of the funding (i.e for University tuition fees). Scotland knows full well they won'rt get nearly as good a deal as if they'd have voted Yes in the first referendum.

Scotland also has far too much debt and overspending, even considering the money Westminster gives them, to be allowed in the EU or to survive independently. Something like 10% of their GDP in debt, twice that of the UK.

The last referendum was also held when oil prices had the Scots thinking they were loaded as fuck. Oil prices have now dropped so their main financial boon is worth far less than they would need it to in order to realistically consider independence.

As another anon mentioned, Catalonia and Spain are likely to make it difficult for Scotland as the Spanish will likely make an example of Scotland to deter the Catalonian movement. The EU is already in a difficult position stemming from expanding too quickly and taking in too many countries with bad economies (something they admit themselves) and so are unlikely to U-turn on their recent position of allowing no more countries to join the EU for the time being.

Scotland would literally be fucked beyond comprehension if they voted to leave the UK.

That's why I say that Brexit has been an enormous win for libertarian decentralization.

>Many Scots voted in favor of remaining in the UK in 2014 because of concerns that breaking away might leave them outside the bloc.
makes sense, they pussied out because they'd be out of the EU. Now they're out of the EU no matter what, and the only way they'll be back in is if they break away.

zzz they had the same polls before the last Scotch referendum

but this time, the offer will be an independent country with no currency, not even Euros, because the EU won't let Scotland back in

like all polls, it's just bitterness they didn't get to remain in the EU. actually ask them to vote for suicide (which is what voting for independence outside the EU would be), and they'll do what they did last time, but in even stronger numbers, to stay in the UK

There are many secessionist movements that are being held back by the narrative that large jurisdictions are better, as more and more states secede from larger entities more it will be disproved and more secessionist movements will appear. By now the most relevant ones are Texan, Scottish and Northern Irish, but the number will surely grow as the exit of UK from the EU proves beneficial for you guys due to the benefits of decentralization and the release of the Eurocrat bureaucracy burden.

Yeah, Catalan is at this point more of a joke than anything else (I live there), but things may change when our country most likely falls to the hard left and the inevitable consequences this goes with.

Scotland cannot stay in the EU even if they leave the UK.
The whole UK voted to leave and so Scotland would need to re-apply for membership, And that is a long process and during that time Scotland would be on their own.

At the end scots will vote to remain in the UK simply because they won't want to be alone for so long.
