He was secretly for Brexit. For many years he was anti-EU and he doesn't seem like the kind of person to change his opinions on a whim. He was just following the party line by campaigning (albeit very poorly) for Remain.

Anyway, I read that he just sacked Hilary Benn to try and stop the rebelion. Is it still going ahead?

Maybe. The UK is heading towards a pretty severe political realignment now that the big EU boogeyman is no longer a valid argument to use for every problem. Labour itself might actually pull back towards the leftist position it used to hold in the past, with Corbyn embodying this fairly well.

Just a shame the guy has absolutely zero charisma and seems stuck in the 1960s. Labour needs a younger face.

>The EU is just a trade agreement.

It hasn't been that from the outset. The ultimate object was always to create one united europe of diluted ethnicities and cutlures, to prevent the occurrence of another world war.

Oh, and to make a handful of people insanely rich and powerful. That too.
>>
>>78777654
The EU is more than that. Originally it was a trade agreement, but it has since expanded into a political union with its own currency. Ever since we entered, the EU has consolidated power to Brussels -- political power, financial power, legal power... all has been slowly diverted from member states to Brussels.
>>
>>78773102
>>Entire purpose of UKIP over
no, not yet.
only when the process of leaving the EU is formally completed has independence been achieved. and even then - all the other parties will just start shilling to rejoin the EU as soon as possible, so UKIP is needed as a guardian of independence against those who would give it away again.

Sturgeon ran off to the EU after the result and asked them to negotiate on the idea of an independent Scotland and she got a response of "lol wtf".

You are exactly right in saying they face all the same problems they did last time. Which is why this referendum won't happened. Because the debates will be identical to those of a couple of years ago and we already know what Scotland chose.

Scotland wanted the UK to remain in the EU united. 2 years ago when they were asked whether they'd like to leave the UK and join the EU seperately they overwhelmingly said no. So there's no need for a referendum.
>>
>>78779152
Don't forget Farage resigned before, but stepped back up when people in his party pressured him to continue.

Unfortunately the general election isn't a referendum and nothing has changed since last time. UKIP are not going to go from 3 seats to 250. No party would form a coalition with them either.

We have a democracy. He has no right whatsoever.

Very much that, anon. But the leadership was so heavily invested, so committed to the bureaucracy, that all it could do was shout down and stifle objection and dissent, and platitudes and calming gestures for the masses to keep them docile and obedient. The normies couldn't see until the utter insanity of the mass-importation of a foreign and hostile set of cultures into their comfortable and safe villages. When the rapes and assaults began to pile up, and no more platitudes could be offered.

For all of the shit I've heaped on you Germans, I grew up there. I have fond childhood memories of those same villages, and I hope like hell you all survive this madness.

The alternative is pretty scary as well due to who we are surrounded by. We could easily turn into an Islamic country if we let in too much democracy.

Your government needs to make a great example of this to influence other EU countries to leave the "agreement" and to shut up the people claiming that the leaver voters are all short sighted.
Apparently they can't stand when a country has the freedom to dictate who they trade with and how they want to do it.

I was never fond of EU, but I just saw them as an inefficient joke and a minor nuisance until the migrant crisis. My city got flooded with people who had illegally travelled through the whole fucking Europe and were now the taxpayers' responsibility during challenging economical times. The lack of gratitude (rapes, robbings, complaints about the quality of food) sent a nice "fuck you" message too.

When EU showcased this attitude that it was not acceptable to consider these people a security risk or question the expenses they caused, and when it basically chose the interests of non-Europeans over the European people, that's when I finally came to the conclusion that EU is dangerous and its time must end. If they had taken immediate action during a crisis like that, they could've convinced me to form another opinion. Merkel & co could've stood with Orban, who was the only one showing any leadership and vision. They could've ordered temporary border checks on the entire Schengen zone until the situation's under control. But instead of EU activating some kind of emergency procedure together, they just kept wasting time, and all the countries were eventually forced to make independent decisions to secure their borders.

> If Boris Johnson looked downbeat yesterday, that is because he realises that he has lost.
> Perhaps many Brexiters do not realise it yet, but they have actually lost, and it is all down to one man: David Cameron.
With one fell swoop yesterday at 9:15 am, Cameron effectively annulled the referendum result, and simultaneously destroyed the political careers of Boris Johnson, Michael Gove and leading Brexiters who cost him so much anguish, not to mention his premiership.
>How?
>Throughout the campaign, Cameron had repeatedly said that a vote for leave would lead to triggering Article 50 straight away. Whether implicitly or explicitly, the image was clear: he would be giving that notice under Article 50 the morning after a vote to leave. Whether that was scaremongering or not is a bit moot now but, in the midst of the sentimental nautical references of his speech yesterday, he quietly abandoned that position and handed the responsibility over to his successor.
>And as the day wore on, the enormity of that step started to sink in: the markets, Sterling, Scotland, the Irish border, the Gibraltar border, the frontier at Calais, the need to continue compliance with all EU regulations for a free market, re-issuing passports, Brits abroad, EU citizens in Britain, the mountain of legistlation to be torn up and rewritten ... the list grew and grew.
The referendum result is not binding. It is advisory. Parliament is not bound to commit itself in that same direction.

omg its like a master ruseman meme but in real life. found on leddit/guardian

just remember guys the remain camp are the REAL winners here

You're not allowed to disagree with Comrade Corbyn without paying the price. Not that I'm surprised.

It's a shame after the Syria vote Hillary Benn was clearly one of the stars of the party and they're just going to replaced by socialist yes-men.

Sure the young may be happy but as this referendum has shown the young complain a lot and never vote.

Your constitution and its heavy importance in your politics always seemed like a really great thing to me (especially the first amendment). The second amendment confused me though, I didn't understand why guns should have such remarkable protection. But the last year has helped me understand; it's absolutely reasonable to fear that the government can evolve into an enemy to its own people, and there should be strong safeguards against this scenario.

Here's a list of topics that the EU makes law on: http://ec.europa.eu/citizens-initiative/public/competences/faq

Note that it makes by far the majority of laws on fisheries and agriculture. Telling British fishermen that they need to obtain EU permission to fish in their own territorial waters is absurd. Link on precisely how that has fucked what was once one of our largest industries: http://campaignforanindependentbritain.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Fisheries-booklet-FULL.pdf

>>78778978
That won't happen unless the Labour party completely implodes. I can't even begin to tell you how improbable that is.

The labour party supported remain but were very 'lacklustre' according to reasons.

Some party members expressed dissatisfaction with Corbyn's leadership and when one little cunt went to power grab, Corbyn let him go. The response looks like a big walk out.

That's the TL;dr from an outsider though.

All I would add is that they've been trying this for some time. Indeed, most of them have obsessively committed themselves to ousting Corbyn, some lending all of their available time and energy to the objective.

I love in the local elections as well as the general elections, but neither matters. Our government is governed by another government in Europe which nobody here has any say in.

They tell out government what they can do, what they can't do, and what they should do.

A huge chunk of our laws are dictated to by them, given that they like the regular every aspect of peoples lives within their borders.

Then there's the mass internal migration between European peoples, while I'll always hold Europeans above non-Europeans that doesn't mean I agree that they should be given equal status within the UK to one of our own citizens.

And the same vice versa, a Brit in Poland should be no different to a Pole in Britain.

Because of this workers from poorer countries within the EU travel to the UK to work here, willing to work at cheaper payrates than our natives which undercuts us and drives up our unemployment.

This forces them into claiming benefits, which is already under immense stress from EU and non-EU claimants who live here alike.

While there are some positives to the EU, to a lot of people they sure are hell don't outweigh the flaws.
