Yeah but not because of dread or whatever. I was born in '71, I've done drills for what to do when the bombs come ect. That never really bothered me then. When I found out what M.A.D. was I talked to my grampa and he said that nobody in charge would ever willingly die for their beliefs. And I realized that he was right, and I've never had a second of worry since then. I basically spent my entire life being glad that I didn't have to do the kind of shit him and my other grampa had to do in ww2.
Honestly, I just drink because it's stupidity in a bottle, and that helps me deal with the fact that I gave up my academic interests to cash in during the energy boom and am completely surrounded by people who did the same thing, except for the part about being interested and educated in anything else, ever.
I have this massive network of friends who are basically worthless to hold a conversation with. They're good people, some of them would hide bodies for me and I'd do the same for them.
But they bore the shit out of me.
Until I get the first 5-7 drinks in me, then everything is great for the rest of the night.
This idea of letting broad trends actually affect you, it's because you're too fucking compartmentalized and removed from the world around you.
The barbarians are always at the gates, they've always been at the gates and they'll always be at the gates. That's never ever going to change.
But you still need to eat shower shit and sleep until you stop breathing, so you might as well focus on doing that as comfortably as possible, because that's something you can actually affect change upon without having to wait for anybody else to help you.
And part of you knows this, and dreads the process, as you should, and your subconscious distracts you with the doom and gloom that infotainment pundits and political marketers foist upon you, precisely just to direct and retain your attention.
