The superdelegate system in this case was basically an anointment system. The psychological effect of having such a massive lead demoralizes people who want their vote to "count" despite wanting the other candidate. So technically speaking he wasn't swindled, but it absolutely was slanted as hell. We'll never really know what a vote without announced allegiance from supers would look like though, the votes have already been cast and what is done is done.
