/pol/, which is more important? Taking care of yourself as an individual or using your resources to better shape society?
>>

When the individual looks after his own and looks to improve his own standing all of society benefits
>>

Individual. All attempts to use ones resources for the supposed benefit of others usually ends in absolute disaster. Another issue is that which is considered a "benefit" for the community, who decides? A government bueraucrat?

See the war on poverty in the US
>>
A large group of people who take proper care of themselves is better than any society we have today.
>>
>>78733774
Both.

You need to take care of yourself as an individual, so that way you can be able to be beneficial towards your society.

One necessitates the other.
>>
Individual. Strong individuals, strong society.

Weak individuals, weak society. This is why personal responsibility is encouraged. The strong individual will naturally look out for what is in the best interest of their people.

Like most things, the real answer lies somewhere in between. But if you can't or haven't gotten your own shit together, good fucking luck trying to help someone else out.
>>
Somewhere in between, both extremes are pretty shit.
>Left tears society apart
>Right leads to stagnation
>>
>>78733774
only use your resources to better shape society if it benefits the individual

its like you think this is hard or something
>>
No point in caring about a multi cult society. I care for family and friends. Society is dead.
>>
>>78733774
Individual responsibility first but societal responsibility is also important. Help yourself first, then help others.

This. Look at every nation who went socialist. Look at the effects of the war on poverty, look at how it absolutely destroyed the black community in the US.

When people do things for their own gain we all benefit. When pharma companies discover new drugs they're not doing it for us all, they it do it for themselves but we all benefit. Every great advancement we've made these past 200 years hasn't been through government initiatives telling scientists to go and improve the standing of the people.

I think about this a lot, and every time I reach the same conclusion.

An individual should take care of oneself, extended to close family and friends. This is far, far above doing good for you society.

As opposed to the government, people in positions of significant influence, and officials, who should value and promote the idea of doing more good for the society, for the community.

The US is a special case though, we're a country of immigrants. We're not homogenized like other countries.

Social.. Obviously.
The reason western civilization is falling, is because of the belief in individual responsibility and individual rights.

Morality, like body language, exists inherently in human biology. Without people, it's vestigial. Why call individualism "moral" if society is the progenitor of morality?

If we want to be a progressive society, we have to ask ourselves two questions. "What kind of progress?" and "If it's progress that isn't moral, then is it really progress at all?".
>>

individualism is the rule when human capital is necessary. it is no longer, therefore as per
>>78734297
mutual action to prevent an invading force is in everyones best interest
>>
There is no question.

Individual

Without the individual there is no society.
