You do know that some companies are not able to pay that much to their workers? And you are aware that some people prefer working for 10$/h than not working at all, because of not being well educated or suited for the job? And you do realise that they WILL KEEP WORKING for less than 15$ anyway so the legislation will just make life harder for them? Kys.
>>
The small company that I work at would not be able to afford this. Full stop. I'm not completely privy to their finances, but I know we basically scape even with enough left over to invest in our infrastructure. All of our clients are contractual and we set the rate for the duration of the contract when it's signed, so there would be no way to readjust our pricing. On top of that, we would probably lose a bunch of clients that also tanked due to increased labor costs.

God, this shit pisses me off so much. I would probably lose a job I love over this shit.

Come out swinging and tell all those white males where they can shove their complaints.
>>
>>78722171
Why do people think that $15/hour is unaffordable?

Just make bigger companies pay their fair share of taxes, then the burden won't be on small businesses.

If we can redistribute wealth so that it isn't concentrated in the hands of so few, $15 will be easy.

You shouldn't be able to pay someone less than it costs to live to do a job. If you can't afford to pay a worker, you shouldn't be hiring them.
>>

I think the problem is places like walmart are essentially getting subsidized by the govt, because they know all their employees are on welfare. So basically our tax dollars are going to big multinational corps who just hide it offshore anyways. I'd be interested in setting minimum wage divided by urban and rural and with ways for small companies (under 1 million in revenue) to get tax benefits or a way around it.

The Democratic party plan for decades has been basically that:

1) Create government programs to help poor people
2) Create conditions that make sure poor people stay poor

#1 makes sure poor people vote Democrat and #2 makes sure there are enough poor people to keep Democrats in power.

Some have woke up to this. Not many.

Yuo do realize that its a matter of competition? If all companies MUST by law pay 15 dollars an hour its a none issue.
If you are a company that decided to pay its workers more than the competition you are gonna have a harder time but if you all have to raise the salary of workers by a similar amount you do not suffer.
Sure the products will get a bit more expensive but its nothing compared to the huge benefits.

There are two possible answers from businesses for a rise like that in minimum wage:
1. Increase the price of products, which implies less consumption from the people so less profit => less money to pay more minimum wage jobs
2. Fire people right away to have enough profit to pay the double minimum wage jobs. This means that, as long as people aren't overworked, there will be less productivity due to less workers.

Of course, I am just talking about minimum wage jobs, which I related directly with poor people. So maybe my argument fails there.
>>
>>78723830
So why is the limit at 15?
Why is 10$ ok but not 15$? why not 5$?
why not lower the minimum wage to 2$? According to your reductionist analysis there should be no minimum wage..
>>
>mfw your employer has to pay you $15 an hour and then decides to just fire you instead.

>>78733656

>muh fair share argument

In relation to minimum wage? Do you think that people's wages come out of a communal cookie jar?

Idiot;

I'll make this simple.
What you and your idiot pals have done is precipitate the death of small and mid sized businesses.
Only the mega Corp sized business will be able to absorb a near doubling of their labor overhead costs.
That means, dummy, that you and your pals have done more to assist the super wealthy corporatists than any other group in recent history.
Walmart will now be the only fucking store.
Good work economic retards.
>>
>>78733870
>Immigrants makes less than minimum wage anyway.
flawed premise.

they generally make more than similarly educated americans per hour. they often work in trades that pay significantly more than min wage.
>>
>>78733855
Even worse, that just means that the bigger spending power that minimum wage workers have wouldn't affect those businesses. And they would still have to increase their profit in order to handle a ridiculous increase in wage like that. That would translate in a sacrifice, one way or another.
Of course, this is assuming that those businesses that you are talking about pay minimum wage to their workers.
>>
>>78733656
It fails because you you can think of a raising of the minimum wage as a sort of tax, in very broad terms. the question is, who is paying how many taxes?
Meaning that if the rich dont pay taxes at all you will be taking from the middle class.
What matters is not just raising the minimum wage but making sure the rich pay their share of the taxes. This of course ties to international competition since your home companies need to compete with other comapnies from other countries over the same markets.
Economy of a whole country is not easy.
But a minimum wage is a wage you need to lead an ok job and efford the basics.
some products will surely rise in cost but that doent matter cause you pay the lower workers more. Like i said it can be viewed as a sort of tax and the question remains who in your countiry is unfairly burdened by taxes, the middle class or the upper class?
I would say in america its probably the middle class cause the rich dont pay shit so its eroding the middle class buying abilities but its not the fault of the lower class, its the fault of the rich evading taxation and to some extent global economy that ATM favors the rich.

Aren't you just talking about public service jobs? The ones paid by the government.

I mean, I still don't know how some McDonald's stores, many of which who hire less educated minimum wage workers would get the money to compensate for such an increase without in the end firing more of those workers. Maybe McDonald's business as a whole would probably not be very affected, but the fact is that employment by such a company would decrease.

>>
It's all part of their bigger plan to create more government dependence. A higher minimum wage means fewer full time employees and fewer job positions. That means even more people will qualify for welfare assistance programs. And for most people, once they get on the free money train, they don't get back off. So these new dependents and their friends/family will vote democrat to keep their benefits. And each vote will cost just a bit more freedom than the last, but few will notice until it's too late.
>>
>>78734259
I don't think that. They will try. But how did the mega-stores take over in the first place? They moved in sold at lower prices(often at a net loss) until small business died. Then raise prices when competition was gone.

This just gives them a second wave to do the same.

Most of the time the middle and lower class. Rich don't pay shit because they are above the law.

That's why there are things like fines the police use all the time. They use it to pay for stuff in the city because the city's reduced their taxes so low they literally can't pay for anything anymore. That's what happens when you "lower" taxes. The poor get fucked.

Have you ever worked a job outside of canada? That's really the crux of this.

My store barely has enough staff to cover shit as is. Ever been in a Lowe's hardware store? ever had an easy time finding someone who knew about the department you were in? Thank budget cuts for that. Shit, half our equipment is falling apart and we can't even afford to use electric pallet jacks for our 4000lb pallets of fucking peatmoss.

If they could live with less profits going to corporate, they would. The fact is that they're legally obligated to maximize profits. They have to cut the fat from somewhere, so now it's up to me and two other guys to unload a 1500 item truck with 30+ appliances on it, 5 nights a week. With only one guy in the truck and only four people in the store properly trained to use a forklift.

Most of the people on minimum wage are one of two types of people

1. Kids who are on the bottom level of work experience, these will move on to higher level jobs and education.

2. People who are too old, dumb or lazy to get educated; these people will never learn how to do anything useful and will never advance up from this level of life.

You think a computer uses more energy and materials than a machine capable of moving a 500lb refrigerator around by itself?

It's the opposite. The labor jobs will never be cost-efficient to replace with machines. The purely mental keyboard jobs will be the first to go, hence why we see more kiosks at mcdonald's than androids at hardware stores.

The truth is that you sometimes have to do things you dont like to get a better life, even if it does mean learning calculus. I believe the problem is in motivation, not in the system. I will admit that the schools do play off of this by convincing students that they made a good choice by going dor liberal arts.
