Eternal damnation is simply eternal separation from God, Who is the source of all good, reason, Love, etc. It is the complete absence of all true goodness.
It is a matter of necessity that that which does not share the Holy and Perfect nature of God must be apart from Him. God's Children are made perfect; they are not perfect by their own nature. Those who refuse God's Free offer of Salvation will spend eternity apart from Him.
