The younger generations know not of responsibility.

Older folks view voting as a societal responsibility, as for the vast majority of the younger?

>>
>How van you have any meat if you don't eat your pudding!?!?

What I have found interesting over the last few hours is watching my own political views shifting massively in response to the result. I suppose a sudden shift in your personal identity will do that.

Since WWII Britain has questioned itself over its place in the world, and it feels like this vote has finally had us announce an answer. Britain, it seems, is to be isolationist, no longer a player in global geopolitical affairs, and we will likely see our global interconnectedness, wealth and status decline significantly. We have decided to be a small nation.

With that in mind, there are a number of issues on which my position has dramatically reversed. Scottish independence, for example. I used to be opposed, but now I support it enthusiastically. Good for the Scots if they manage it. I envy them. The same goes for Irish reunification. It doesn't matter if the UK diminishes to just England and Wales, because we no longer aspire to greatness.

Similarly my support for the UK maintaining a nuclear arsenal and high military spending in general has plummeted. What's the point? We're no longer interested in international influence. We should cut the military significantly, save the money and spend it on investing in infrastructure. God knows the economy is going to need it. And to be honest I wouldn't much care if the UK were taken over by a foreign invader anyway. They can't do much worse than we have.

If this all sounds consistently liberal, it's not. The referendum was won for Leave by the working class and I hold them responsible for robbing me of many of my most valuable rights and for what it's going to do to the country. My sympathy and solidarity has evaporated overnight. I used to be an enthusiastic supporter of the welfare state funded by high taxation, but fuck em. Privatise the NHS, cut benefits.
>>
>>78713136
Anyone under 30 shouldn't vote. Bunch of dumb liberal faggots.
>>
>>78713136
This. "Democracy" was a mistake. Voting should be a privilege earned through work not something freely given.

Older folks are surprised as hell when I show up for county or state elections. I hardly see any one my age.

I wish voting was more anonymous. It should be. It's like they just don't care anymore about voters human rights to privacy.

Hasn't it always been this way? Old people ALWAYS go out and vote at every level. I worked for our mayor years ago, and at every public meeting or hearing nobody there except for old people. Occasionally young firebrands with an issue crusade would come, and they are easily gotten rid of.

Representative "democracy" works, by nature, like an oligarchy.
This in turn desensitizes people, it alienates them. They see the state not as an institution formed by every citizen and where everyone must contribute but as something alien to them that does shit on the distance and you just sit and wait to see how hard it fucks you in the ass.

As for why young people in particular don't vote, i guess it's because this sense of alienation tends to be stronger with them (you see it with those bullshit rebellious movements formed by mostly young people) but at the end of the day they just don't develop enough love for their country, and don't care enough for their future because they're naive and egotistic.

Usually with age you develop that sense of belonging and responsibility. Perhaps because you now care about giving the new generations a better future.

He's in his 60s and growing up young adults took a lot of pride joining political movements. Volunteering for campaigns you believed in was normal.

I don't know why our current generation are so detached from it. Maybe we've lost faith in the system, or we're lazy, or we're flooded with other shit like social media and stuff that keeps us unproductive but busy. Idk.

I'll copy-paste a comment I left on pic related.

May I call attention to a sample size of 1652 people who were polled between the 17th and 19th of June? Also of those 1652 people who were polled, those who were undecided or made use of the secrecy of vote were excluded. Taking into consideration that older people give less of a shit what the world thinks of them, it becomes apparent that in our culture today, when you get socially ostracised and your employers contacted in an attempt to get you fired and your life destroyed for daring to disagree with a specific ideology, younger people are less likely to openly admit to going against the mainstream.
Unfortunately information about the place where these questionaires took place is not given, for example in London it’s very likely that older people are native Brits with conservative views, whereas the younger people are very likely to be students or migrants with liberal views.

Also, people of the labouring classes have a lower life expectancy than the aristocrats, should the experience and opinions of labourers be discounted because of that fact?

Maybe, just maybe, after a lifetime of experience, old people know better than 18 to 25 year olds who might not have worked a single day in their life (because the youth unemployment in Britain is god awful) and have spent up to 25 years in the education system that is heavily biased towards the EU and might not consciously remember a time before the EU.
>>
>>78725209
>because the youth unemployment in Britain is god awful
what
i mean, sure, 17%. But thats 5% better than EU average and the top shitters are over 50% (spain, greece) with some other disgraces following with over 40% (croatia, italy)

obviously 18-24y/o don't have much idea what they're talking about in regards of employment, anyway. Chance is, they're quite happy with their minimum wage part-time job right now.
Things change when you want more from life than a bed and some pocket money to get tipsy with on weekends.

Come on Germanbro, you know that those statistics are fluffed beyond belief, 17% is the lowest percentage they could bring it down to, i.e. people in retraining programs etc. are not included. It's likely that anyone under the age of 21 isn't included in those number either, because they can, for some reason, still be counted as "in education".

Your source is garbage. You can't know how old the voters were, because it was secret.

Im an American, grew up in the southern USA where there are alot of blacks. Even there from a young age it was drilled into our head that:
> Racism is the worst thing ever
> MLK was the best man who ever livedf
> Dont be on the wrong side of history (right wing).
>Blacks are great people who are oppressed.

This wasnt so effective were I was at given you see nigs every single day acting like nigs. So a teacher standing up and telling you the grass is purple when you can simply look around and see that the grass is green doesn't really work.

I don't think you should even be allowed to vote until you're 25. I thought I was suddenly an adult when I turned 18 just like every other idiot but it wasn't until I was 25 that I realized that I had actually become an adult.
