Compared to holocaust, there are not. They are more or less the same: Eyewitnesses, monuments, documents supposedly written by the gov. and propaganda. If you were an apolitical commoner you'll likely won't witness any atrocities in the whole 40 years of communism.

The camps were located on the Eastern side of iron curtain and Communist wanted to overshadow the atrocities commited against Jews by those commited against Slavs, while Americans wanted to do exactely the opposite. The real research started only recently.
