Not really possible. English is filling a role now that Latin used too. As a language everyone learns so everyone has a way of communicating with each other. Latin was used for this in the west long after the Roman Empire fell.
Now everyone on the planet uses English for a similar purpose, as the language of trade, diplomacy and academia. If a Thai trading party goes to the Philippines, odds are good neither side will have familiarity with Thai or Tagalog. But both sides will have people who speak English. If you publish an Academic paper in the Russian language, odds are good only Russians will read it. If you publish it in English, odds are good everyone from Japan to Brazil will read it.
So no. The English language has simply become too entrenched. Even if the USA and the UK went poof tomorrow, it will still be used because it would be too big of a pain in the ass to switch to something else.

mostly it`s just for the same reason as in french: there hasnt been a comprehensive spelling reform in either language for a long time, mostly due to there dominant status as languages of international exchange
if present-day german was still written with orthographies based on the 15th or 16th century spoken language version, like is the case in english and french, it`d look weird in terms of how different it is written from the way that it is pronounced, too
