"I ... do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties ... which I am about to enter; So help me God."
Short. Sweet. Liberty-minded. Requires full mental capacities to recite.

If the point is to get kids at a young age, I still think the Pledge should be recited by teachers in class/the principal over loudspeaker in the mornings and coaches at games, the national anthem and maybe America the Beautiful by girls who want to show off their singing chops, etc.
