I'm sure it's as bad in Germany, but in the US, growing up through school they always painted the Nazis as legitimate comic book villains, and were teaching all the kids about how evil Hitler and the Nazis were. It's pretty seriously propagandized and seeing Nazi soldiers and Hitler as no different from other world leaders and soldiers is almost alien for most people here. I don't know if people having grown up in Europe would've been taught it more neutrally or not.

The way we're going this isn't true. Somehow the old alliance is reforming itself against central europe. Britain left, russia is fighting ISIS and america may elect trump. If it's trump then america will be bros with britain and have better relations with russia because they're fighting terrorists. My great-uncle was an MP for officers and was part of the division guarding the Buchenwald officers. He and his buddies literally stripped the Germans of all guns, medals, and gold. When he was alive the guy had probably close to 1/2 a million in shit stashed in his ceiling tiles, and he pawned off most of it too so I have no idea how the hell he got it over to the US.
