Japanese teaching programs aren't about learning Japanese. They're about a revolving door of weebs who will come to the country, work for a pittance, and on paper allow a school to say it has a native teacher.

As a teacher in Japan, it's often preferred that you DON'T know any Japanese, because you might accidentally teach the children new things. That is not your role as an English speaker in Japan. You're a glorified babysitter who plays games with the kids while a JP native actually teaches them "English" from a textbook written in katakana.

>>
>>78667173
For one thing, finding people who are actually fluent in both languages is uncommon and thus expensive, even more so if you're looking for someone who also has a teaching qualification. It's far cheaper to hire a weeb and a native who can read a textbook.

>>78667283
They could very easily require more of teachers, but they don't want teachers. They want something that looks good on paper to parents, only private schools actually have decent language teaching.

A lot of it boils down to not really caring about English proficiency. They don't need it, the country is very isolated due to the language barrier and wants to remain that way.

>>
>>78667782

TEFL usually. Google the Trinity and Cambridge versions they're the best known and best respected. I think some jobs accept you without TEFL but if you get that cert or diploma in addition to your degree you should have no problems.

Do you have a certifiate of your English language level? Because you'll also need that unless your CS Bachelor was done at an English speaking university.

what is the plan in order to become one of those "teachers" ?
qualifications?
success rate in applying?

what kind of living does the salary get you?
boarderline homeless or decent?
how long can you do it?
id appreciate it if someone would take the time to fill me in.
>>
>>78675056

I've been working here six months.

You need at least a bachelor's degree. Being native is not a requirement, but it certainly fucking helps. Some teaching certificates help too; they seem to like them.

It's not overly difficult to find a job, especially if you have some prior experience.

Channels are mostly sites like gaijinpot, but that one is fairly competitive. Other sites work too, but be wary of the shit sites where employers can post for free. They typically only have shit jobs.

Getting a visa is time consuming, but if your work sponsors you (which they should) then it's not difficult it seems. I currently have a "Specialist of Humanities" visa and can stay and work here legally for 3 years.

A salary at a "normal" school is around 250.000 yen, with some private schools offering around 350.000 yen. Convert that shit yourself, bro. It's not a bad salary, but not amazing either. You will easily, easily have money for food, rent and lots of drinking and travel.

Most people do around a year, 98%ish (I read that in an article somewhere) leave within 3 years. Make of that what you will.

Japan is awesome, but the work culture is not nice.
>>
>>78675830
>You need at least a bachelor's degree

>Nips don't mock Chinks like this, it'd be retarded since both languages are fairly similar.
There languages are completely fucking unrelated and different in anyway.

Japan adopted Chinese characters to help writing their own language, and a bunch of Chinese loanwords that became "Japanified." But the structure of the two languages couldn't be more opposite.

So, absolutley no chance in getting into it, even if you speak three languages at almost native level, with expierence in tutoring and childcare, when you have only a highschool degree?
>>
>>78676945

I know people who've been here for many, many years. If you don't fuck up and have a job, you'll be fine I think. I'm not an expert on the rules though.

>>78676989

I definitely think you have a chance, especially since you have experience. Formally speaking, though, they require it. Just apply anyway and you'll probably get a job. Then again, maybe immigration will block your path if you don't have a degree... it's hard to say in Japan. It's a weird country.

Meh, okay
>What's my chance to get into the JET program with just a highschool degree and a N1 in english, but with one year work expierence in Japan?
I dunno since I got denied by JET years ago, but I thought you needed a uni degree, and I think work experience in Japan is detrimental to your application, or it used to be, since they want only fresh off the boat gaijin for that program.
Work visas in Japan usually require a uni degree, there are ways around that but they are very difficult and usually mean you have to be working for some company on a student or work holiday visa and you have a specialty job and the company decides you are vital to their operations and makes a huge hassle at immigration bureau and eventually they might approve you for a visa like that. I know a guy or two who I think did that, long ago.
>I don't really want to go to Tokyo or Osaka, I heard JET sends you to any school they want and you can't do shit against that. What's my chance to live the comfy, snowy live of Hokkaido?
Again I don't know but population wise Hokkaido isn't so big as far as I know, it's pretty random but you would probably be more likely to end up somewhere with a higher population just because of the laws of probability (more schools, more teachers needed)
>Is it possible for a foreigner to go to college there and get a degree in some shit? I fucked up big times in germany and only realized my grave mistake after it was to late
Yes this is very possible, I've met a lot of foreign college students and yes you can go to college and get a degree here. You can apply to a real school if you are reasonably smart or you can apply to that nigger Muslim monkey school in Beppu where they have a revolving door program for ooga boogas. Asia pacific university was the name I think. There is a famous jigokudani hot spring near there where the water is a beautiful color and if you enter the valley you die because it's a literal cloud of sulfuric acid floating there

Hvor meget Japansk skal man kunne for at blive Engelsk lærer?
>>
>>78673843
Not even relatively speaking, they aren't even related at all. They belong to two completely different language families. Iranian, for example, is much more closely related to English than Japanese is to Chinese
>>
>>78677816

Intet. De foretrækker faktisk, at hvis man kan japansk, at man så skjuler det. Deres logik er, at man skaber et engelsk undervisningsmiljo. Det er en komplet gang lort, men hey, sådan er det.

Jeg kan ikke meget japansk.

The requirement there for the degree is a requirement for the work visa itself, not employment. Presumably JET has a similar requirement but I don't know their current details. The majority of English teachers here are not JETs though as far as I am aware.
I have encountered people who received work visas using degrees they bought from diploma mills (fake degrees). This is much more likely to work if you are American or Canadian or whatever and are applying for some generic eikaiwa job because the immigration guys don't even look at the paperwork for those half the time it seems. Of course I don't recommend it because it's probably illegal, and I have no idea what happens if you get caught. If you have some amount of funding available to you, why not look into getting a degree at a college in Japan?

Interessant, undervisningen foregår 100% på Engelsk går jeg ud fra?
Hvordan har du fundet det? Jeg har selv haft interesse for noget lignende, men har ikke rigtig kunne finde noget.
>>
>>78678074
Oh by the way: if you are enrolled as a student, you can get a permission slip from immigration allowing you to work up to 4 hours a day. 4 hours at a part time eikaiwa job paying 3,000 yen an hour can make living as a student a lot easier

There are also language schools that can get you a different kind of visa, pre-college student. These are meant for foreign students to get a mastery of Japanese language before they go to Japanese university.

I'm working part-time in a kindergarten and give tutoring to German, English, Math and Biology in the evenings through a tutoring office.
I've been tutoring kids even back in school, so 6 years of undocumented work expierence.

Well, now to the point to get that info through some japanese office worker going through filthy gaijin applications.

I'm doing a working holiday starting December or January, plan to work in a Gakudo for some time, try out various jobs, travel through the country and see for myself before I apply for a full visa. Hopefully that will help me to get into the program.

College costs money, currently I'm struggling to pay for me and my crippled mother. Shit is though yo, maybe I try to make one of these crowdfunding websites or ask for donations.
Or work and go to college at the same time, but that would probably kill me off for good.

Why do people shit on teachers? I get its an easy job compared to others, but we literally need teachers
>>
>>78678371
It seems like you have good experience behind you, you should try to make as many contacts as you can here while you are on working holiday because you never know when someone might be able to help. And you might be tempted to shun other gaijin because you want to experience real Japan, but talk to them every now and then because some of them have good advice and information. For example, I thought the no college degree thing was an absolute until I realized that two people I had worked with also didn't have university degrees.

Shit nigga, det tog mig to dage at finde et arbejde. Undervisningen foregår på engelsk, ja, selvom jeg efterhånden kan noget brugbart klasse-japansk, såsom "forstår i opgaven/forklaringen", "stop med at snakke japansk", "venligst læs/skriv" etc etc. Småting.

I got all the expierence in the world, but no fucking paper containing the words "wasted 3 years of his life at a university" that is needed for any teaching job in Germany.

Why the fuck do you think I even think about doing this?
Well, mainly because I love rural japanese towns, the food and the people, but also because that's one of my last ways to become a full blown teacher (assistant).

I think when I get my working holiday license at the embassy, I'll try get more informations about these topics. Also there will probably be an office of the JET program in Japan. Direct contact with the employer is always helpfull.

Good thing I have some time to think about all of this.
