I blame EU for UK's leaving. They should have revoked open borders to properly vet immigrants or at least provide members the option to opt out of open borders.

The EU or any union is formed mainly for economic reasons. Easier to trade, regulate, borrow credit, bailout, low or no tariffs etc. Even the US constitution was written with provisions for trade between states.
