Socialism doesn't work because [insert history of the soviet union here]
It places an excessive degree of control and power in the hands of an authoritative body that ultimately has no incentive to do actually accomplish its goals, because it has all the power. Without accountability, corruption spreads, efficiency declines and you just create a new elite ruling class based on exploitation of the working class. In general, socialist policies tend to be more beneficial to the unproductive, at the expense of the productive, which invariably damages incentives towards productivity and creates a vicious cycle.
Liberal colleges love it because of the long, complex and interwoven history of academics and Paris '68. Marxist-leaning ideologies were the vogue of a generation of intellectuals that shaped the modern post-secondary scholastic community in much of the europe-modeled world. Without going to deeply into the micropolitics of PhDs, that generation still has a great deal of influence over the community and that results in most educators not only being sympathetic to those same marxist-sympathetic ideologies, but actively pushing them onto students.
Basically, college-aged youth end up being cucks to burnt out post-structuralism wahoos from the 70's and 80's, and the whole administration-end of post-secondary education is entirely rapt in that masturbatory clique. Youth also tend to be sympathetic to any ideology that calls everybody else idiots and claims to have an easy solution to all of life's problems.

Socialism can work if you have a small homgoenus white country of max 10 milion people and each of those poeple is hard working, law abiding citizen. If you have a country full of lazy dindus no amount of money spent on them will make socialism work. All those liberal kids say they want socialism but they also want to have a multicultural society which is not possible if you want social state to work out. I wouldn't mind paying taxes for universal healthcare or welfare for disabled people but when i know that this money will go to some nigger family in which this entire money will be spend on some shoes that cost few hundred dollars i don't want live in a welfare state.
Socialism works fine in a relatively homogenuous, white ethnostate with a high quality gene pool.
That's why 80s Scandinavia was the poster child for socialism, and it never worked in Latin America.

Socialism is a form of nihilism. It promisies a utopia waiting for those who tear down the existing social order.
Liberal college kids pretend to like socialism because they have never experienced its effects, and take the advantages of capitalism entirely for granted. It wasn't three generations ago that we barely had enough food to end rationing. Left to a socialist state, we'd still be queuing for bread.
Central Planning assumes that the people facillitating it are morally pure alutruists. Forced equality of Outcome (for wages for example) assumes that everyone is equal. Both of these are fanciful ideas, and the result is a totolitarian government enforcing control at gunpoint over a depressed population.
What I don't get is why people think it's fair that someone that spent more effort to get a higher quality job deserves the same amount of wages as someone who got a job out of high school and has no aspirations.

They literally do not know what it is. They think any government program intended to help the needy is socialism and that socialism does not go further than that.

She's a hard left feminist post-structuralist, and essentially explained that the system, at least in the upper-echelons where people like her make a living by publishing essays, things are set up so that the intellectual elite are privileged as intellectual elite without having to contribute any value. In other words, they go out of their ways to invent ways to make their theories inaccessible so that these theories have to be taught in a classroom, instead of being immediately comprehensible to the layman, not because it makes the theory more succinct, but simply because as long as it's out of the reach of the layman, they get to keep their jobs.
She had the gall to talk about how her latest paper endorsed egalitarianism afterwards, without a shred of self-awareness.
To these people, socialism isn't about what's best for everybody, it's about creating a system where they are needed. It's about mandated stratification in which the topmost caste is necessary for the system to function. Everything else is just pomp and circumstance meant to make the rest of the system, believe that it's for the best.
