My parents are kind of autistic when speaking in English, same with a lot of my other relatives and my parents friends around their age. I think they're just conscientious about their strong accent, in Hong Kong (where we're from) we're taught English, so we can read signs and instructions etc, but we don't actually speak it. So their conversational English is awful. Basic colloquialisms completely fly over their heads, even my dad had to ask me what the word "nope" meant. They're also especially uncomfortable when English speakers joke around.

Personally it's pretty fucking boring around here. As a tourist, Singapore is a great place to stay and eat, before you head off to the less sane (but more fun) places like Malaysia and Indonesia (watch out for heavy corruption there). That's what a lot of foreigners do.

You might hear stuff like how Singapore is an expensive city to live in. It's true to an extent. Food and transport are cheap. Taxes are reasonable. But if you want to "live", it can get expensive really, really fast. What I mean by living is stuff like picking up hobbies, fine(r) dining, socializing, and so on.
We still have lots of little laws, but in general as long as you don't litter or take drugs, you'll be fine.
