What's happening right now is that these countries are DIVESTING. Companies, too. It shows up as a loss on a portfolio, because they literally lose assets by short selling them.
A bond, after all, is just lending money to a country or a bank or what-have-you. So, instead of getting X, they get X-15~20%. For some, this is a sizable thing. Most companies and countries don't go all-in, of course.
So, what's happening is that you're awash with pounds and literally nobody wants a rogue state's money.
So people are flooding tot he yen for its increasing value.
The US dollar is 'crashing' but it needed to lose some of its value, we hadn't been seeing much inflation at all. However, because stocks are irrevocably linked world wide, we're likely to see some losses everywhere.

You know what...they barely ever beat the S&P. even if one mutual fund beat the S&P by a few %%, the next year it lost.
