Solar is great as it allows you to live off the grid

i don't remember if it's in the US or Brazil that some guy tried to do that and the gov came and fucked him up for not being their slave

what about the other 364 days?

You need to get rid of Americas petro dollar system first. They won't let you get free energy when they whole American economy works by making every country buy oil in U.S. Dollars there by creating false demand for the U.S. Dollar leading to USA printing money without earning it..... So that's why solar and wind will be held back
>>
>>78387254
yeah clean thorium salt energy is available but nobody is using it
>>
Oil and natural gas are really cheap for the amount of energy you get.

Renewable energy is still yet too expensive to compete viably with non renewable. Also there is a lack of non renewable infrastructure. Solar, wind, hydroelectric, etc. all take up a lot of room and people don't looking at them (especially windmills).

Windmills kill birds and need steady wind with lots of room, solar only lasts half or so a day when its sunny and effectively the closer to the equator, hydro is really fucking limited by virtue of water way availibilty, and geothermal needs a pocket of abnormally high geothermal gradient.

Oil and and gas are already readily available, can be stored for long periods of time, and don't depend on environmental conditions. Coal is dead though thanks to Obama.

Nuclear energy HAS to be the future
Humanity can make no great strides or accomplishments without it
Chernobyl can't and won't happen again
People worried about Nuclear power plants exploding are fucking pussies.

>very wow much logic
Jesus christ go away you fucking faggot. No one wants you here.

France, Nordic countries have been using nuclear for decades, not a single incident has happened to them. Of course the Japs and Communists are going to have shit happen, because they only care about the monies, not about having a functioning society.

Nuclear is the way to go. If Greens parties around the world actually cared about the environment, they would support nuclear.

The only other place with terrible accidents has been Japan and that is only because they have a million tsunamis a year.

Nuclear/wind power is perfect for the US

>overspend on costly, maintenance heavy energy production
>can't even predict supply properly, end up producing a surplus
>somehow a good thing

Some pretty negro tier logic here
>>
>>78407790
In Japan they ignored Engineer's instructions on things like building a higher levy and putting their generators higher up. If properly done there is plenty evidence that nuclear is safe.

>for a brief moment Germany producing more power than it needed
That's the problem with renewables, they cant sustain output.
>>

And the other 364 days they bought electricity from nuclear france

>Forgetting that the plant at chernobyl was run by literal college students who had barely a grasp of nuclear power and absolutely no safety measures.
>But muh Japan
...was a 50 year old plant that withstood an earthquake and a tsunami and still didn't melt down thanks to the precautions put in place and the skill and bravery of the people who worked there.

Poo in loo's and china are starting to. The real game canger is if lockmart can get fusion working.
>>
>>78387254
Weak. We have produced too much energy≠we produced entirely solar energy.

I am guaranteeing you right now that they produced enough coal power, which is Germany's main source of energy, and the solar/wind faggots declared that they had saved the day by pushing them over daily energy consumption with their pussy panels and turbines.

>Fusion only possible at extremely high temperatures
>Requires more and more energy to lower the threshold for possibility
>Energy that can only be obtained from, say, radioactive decay
>Radioactive decay provided by nuclear power
>Once the first fusion process begins, will have infinite energy at our finger tips
>We will literally become gods
>Cucks are holding us back because of muh chernobyl
It can;t end like this /pol/, we as a race must rise above the fears of what we can do, of what we can become
>>
>>78413511

>fusion is infinite energy

Not immediately. We'll need to build many, many fusion plants before energy will be too cheap to meter. Which means we'll need a standardized plant design, which nuclear as a power source hasn't yet managed to do.
>>
>>78412792
It probably never happened. We have the most expensive electricity rates in Europe. Apart from Denmark but their Euro overall is pretty inflated.
1/5 of my familys rent goes to electrity and we dont even use an AC or so on.
>>
>>78413382
Seeing that there's a second plant just 8 miles from Daiichi that's still operating, I'm going to assume that your nuclear wasteland never occurred.
>>
>>78414332
To give a comparison. Its like 0.35$ per kWh
>>
>>78394453

There's no real reason to at the moment. Uranium is still cheaper.

This
>>
>>78414202
I read a Robert Heinlein short story where they do get fusion figured out and have near infinite energy, and instead of power lines for transmission they just broadcast the energy. In that way anything that has an antennae can get 'plugged in' to the grid.

Pretty interesting future, eh?
>>
>>78387254
The problem with wind / solar is not that they can't generate enough energy. The problem is that we can not store that energy to use when there is no sunlight / wind. Fossil fuels are great because they are the storage mechanism. Oxidation / combustion is the energy generation / release mechanism.

If someone invents a way to cheaply generate methane from solar powered electricity, they will become the wealthiest person ever to exist.

>>78414202
>Fusion of hydrogen -> helium literally produces millions of joules of energy

>Chernobyl can't and won't happen again

fuk u shima
>>
>>78415680

Even with that positive feedback loop, it's not like you can use that one fusion power plant on Earth to power everything. It'll produce 400 MW or whatever, and then you'll need to build more. A lot more.
>>
>>78417067
I don't agree with what this guy said but every major nuclear disaster in history was because of absolute dumbfuck building/operating practices that are covered by miles of regulation for current plants.
>>
>>78415566

We can barely do wireless energy transmission across a room, let alone across the country.
>>
>>78387254
What happens at night? Or in winter with less sun more energy needs?
With the exception of the Ares system, storage is quite shit
>>
Somebody at the power company royally fucked up to not anticipate that low power demand day and shut the wind turbines down. It costs more to make a kilowatt of energy with a wind turbine than it does a coal fired power plant. So, you always want your coalplant working at 100%, and the turbines (lots of them working in concert) making up the difference to meet demand. Making "extra" power is a huge loss for the company because power can't be stored. So not only are you making excess power that doesn't make the company any money, you are also burning money in using the machines which incurs maintenance and material costs (coal)

This isn't really an argument for clean power, so much as an example of German incompetence. Someone got shoved in the gas chamber for this little screw up.
