Although some tribes in certain areas did fight frequently, most of them were able to stay out of each other's business b/c they were nomadic and had a lot of space between their territories. Still, they weren't very advanced when it came to... anything. They were pretty much stuck in the part of the paleolithic era that predated civilization. They didn't have metallurgy or commonly used written language, or domestic animals aside from certain dogs and lamas. Certain tribes migrated around certain areas; since they were nomads, they didn't really have a strong concept of land ownership, thinking of they world as some sort of living thing they were "allowed" to live on.

What baffles me is that those indians could be helping out their fellows, BUT that would only happen if the natives had an unified race identity. And even then, how many rich black men go out and help educate the poor ones?

I believe that shakopee mdowakaton tribe does give aid money to poorer tribes, but there are just so many poor tribes that it just doesn't matter. Also I have driven through some ultra poor reservations in South Dakota, and they all lived in trailers. They all had tons of cars and ATVs and what not out front too. They were basically white trailer trash.
But still if I were part of that tribe, I'd want to keep as much of that free money as possible. Hell their ancestors probably fought those other indians in South dakota in battles all the time in the past.
