Because I strongly suspect you conflated discussion of "texas becoming less red over time" as equaling "texas is flipping blue".
Eventually, somewhere down the road, TX will become a swing state like VA. Probably 20 years off, still.
TX historical trends are likely a little skewed because there was a Bush on the ticket in 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992, 2000, and 2004, almost 30 years of having a (perceived) Texan on the ticket. Remember that before Reagan/Bush in 1980 that Texas actually went blue for Jimmy Carter in 1976.
Texas is definitely a red state but one wonders if its become somewhat of a self-fulfilling prophecy, they voted for a Bush for so long that everyone just expects TX to keep voting red. But TX is a big-ass state with alot of low-pop red counties and some high-pop blue counties, looking at their demographics the state isn't that different than others that are swing states.
