>>
>>78340363
Fuck off argentina you don't have any of those things.

It's several times louder. Watch a video of any of their robots. The reason the military gave up on these things is because their necessary internal combustion engines cannot help but always make a shitload of noise, due to their natural and unavoidable inefficiency as a heat engine.

Gasoline is 13,000 times more energy dense than the best lithium batteries, so don't expect robots that aren't noisy and gas powered, unless you want a super long cord plugging them into the wall at all times, or 5 minute runtimes between charging on huge batteries that you'll need to replace yearly.

It's the internal combustion engine powering the thing that makes so much noise. It has to be an ICE because batteries would only last half an hour or so and probably make it far more sluggish and weak.

There's no way around that, either. Gasoline is 13,000 times more energy dense than lithium batteries. We're not getting a 13,000 fold increase between now and when kek saves us all.

There's a reason a roomba is such a basic machine.

I fucking hate how over-designed and unergonomic modern scifi is.

The year is 2032. You’ve managed to escape from the FEMA camp you were forced into after a false flag dirty bomb attack was used to enact nation wide martial law.

As you run desperately toward the horizon you choke on the air full of aluminum oxide. Routine chem trailing ensures that only Monsanto’s genetically modified creations grow, preventing criminal dissidents from growing their own food supply.

As you reach the top of a small hill you come face to face with the military’s latest patrol-bot. In a fraction of a second the machine’s sophisticated camera and computer system analyze your face and scan the biometric data in your subdermal implant. Immediately the drone opens fire, cutting you down in a hail of bullets that were manufactured in China.

As you sputter out your final breath your one final thought is, “If only I had voted for Ron Paul…”

neither, since they didn't specify if silence was needed in a modern combat situation. They just said it was too loud for times when you need silence.

Seal Team 6 Helicoptered into Bin Ladin's house, that wasn't so silent. I can only imagine how helpful a mature version of this technology would help in a situation like that, breaching doors and even pouncing at and on or on targets with no risk of soldier lives.

You don't have a background in engineering so you don't know what the fuck you're talking about, you're just spouting off about shit you read on /r/futurology.

Let me ask you this; How long until science makes a perpetual motion machine? How long until science disproves heliocentrism?

Basically, are you a solipsist or do you accept that there is such a thing as "impossible" in the universe?

It could work as courier for final mile from delivery car. It could navigate all areas including ladders, doors and elevators (it got arm to manipulate things at human height). 90 min endurance is fine for this application, it could recharge as soon as it returns back to delivery car. And for outdoor use they could always use combustion engine again (of course it is not compatible with indoor use). Bye–bye postman job.

That sucks but hard work and determination cannot beat thermodynamics. We can make it cheaper, but we can't make it affordable any more than we can make small airplanes cheaper than cars.
>>
>>78357066
The dog robot might not be cheaper than a robot with wheels, overall.
But it will be the cheapest robot that's capable of quickly and easily navigating stairs and uneven terrain.

Cars might be cheaper than planes, but buying the cheaper vehicle doesn't make you more able to travel over mountains with it.

the reason for legs is that the increased complexity of the unit is more affordable and better than the alternative, which is to reengineer everything that is made to be used by humans/animals.

Actually probably what it is, is soon as the system detects it is going off balance it seizes up. Some modern vehicles have this feature with air bags in rollovers if you say dive off an edge the airbags will deploy before you make impact.
