Economically speaking the EU is a dead weight shacked to our ankles. Germany shares this problem. Countries like the UK or us leaving the EU actually wouldn't be so crippling at all for the country leaving... but it'll shake the entire Union on its very foundation.
Anyway... it doesn't really matter anymore. Whatever the UK might decide they won't leave. Its all just political theater at this point. They can't outright laugh at the "leave" campaign and tell them upfront nothing will come out it... they have to at least make the appearance democracy isn't completely dead yet.
