It's all about the buildup to Moby Dick.

The entire book summarizes the typical whaling journey, and that includes in-depth descriptions of whaling procedure. A person who loves the ocean should love this book.

I just finished Crime and Punishment which I really liked. Starts out low but after the murder things get really interesting. Lot of good discussion as to what motivates crime and whether something should be criminal just because it's against the law and when is it excusable to break the law. Also a good suspense novel so the story is good too even without the philosophy

Hard to say. The inner party in the book are technically posthumans, and they kill anyone who cozies up to them because they see it as abnormal and unpredictable. It's not about being smart or dumb, but serving your function.

This is why no one realizes that in the book they were actually grooming Winston to join the inner party. They could have disappeared and killed him but they didn't. /theory

One Dimensional man by herbert marcuse

He talks lucidly about; the flattening of discourse, the pervasive repression behind a veil of ‘consensus’, the lack of recognition for perspectives and alternatives beyond the dominant frame, the closure of the dominant universe of meaning, the corrosion of established liberties and lines of escape, total mobilisation against a permanent Enemy built into the system as a basis for conformity and effort…It was written during a period of downturn in western societies and so feels very relevant to our post 2008 world.

really taught me to think outside the box, outside dominant understandings of the world that are spoon fed to us from childhood

Kind of surprised nobody brought up H.P. Lovecraft. He was racist as fuck even for his time and the Cthulhu mythos is a great jumping off pad for certain avenues of existentialist philosophy like The Myth of Sisyphus which was recommended in an earlier post. Man's utter insignificance in the universe, all of that. Easily the most thought-provoking horror writer ever.

Yes, Empire is one dominant country/kingdom ruling over others. Nation is an ethnic/cultural group and country is a political group or the 'state' which rules various ethnic/cultural groups.

As far as I'm aware the closest thing to Ukraine before its SSR was cossacks tribe culture, since the ethnic groups in Europe are all seriously really mixed, especially with turkic people in that area.

Kind of a girly book, but "Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China" was a red pill for me. It tells the story of a grandmother, mother and daughter before and during the Revolution/Cultural Revolution in China. Basically it just really goes into detail about how fucked up the communist government quickly became and the atrocities committed by the Red Guard.

The only people who think Guts is a good story, are sheltered, little souls who never opened a fucking history book.

The Bible.

>used to be pro-gay
>used to be pro-immigration
>used to think democrats would save us from evil racist conservatives
>used to regurgitate everything out of the zionist kike media
>used to think global warming was destroying the planet

After reading the Bible, my eyes were opened and I came to the conclusion that my heart had been screaming for a long time: gays and the liberal left in general are a plague on every society; open borders are the death of civilization; practicing and non-practicing Jews are the synagogue of satan who have placed themselves between decent people and God; both political parties are corrupt and pushing society closer to satanic agendas; global warming is a hoax that pseudo-intellectual socialists use to punish successful western societies.

If you haven't read 1984 you have to. So much of the current year left's tactics are basically taken out of that book.

Fear of doxxing is like the panopticon. They try to instill a fear that if you say the wrong things online they will find out your real identity, harass your friends, families and employers and strip you of your livelihood. Hate speech laws in Europe are just another step down the path towards a totalitarian Orwellian state.

Double speak and double think are already deeply instilled in the radical left. "Diversity is a strength", "anti-racism(aka racism against whites)", "Gender is different from sex".

Look at the left's reaction to the Orlando shooting. Somehow homophobic white christians are to blame for a radical muslim's actions? 2 + 2 = 5 in their world already.

I dont care if you are entertained by classic works or not as that is a matter of taste. I do however care that you seem to think that classic works have no message or say anything of meaning. Since this is obviously false, I can only deduce that you came to that conclusion because you are incapable of analyzing classic literature, and so suggested a genre that actually has nothing to say. Have a nice day.

He wrote that at a time when cults like MVS' were springing up everywhere. The genius of that book is in fusing the various elements of the implied promises made by these cults, putting a sci-fi spin on them, and pretending as though it were really real. It's both a scathing parody of new religious movements and a Heinlein's own positive pandeistic spirituality in one. 5/5 Highly recommended.

"The Gun" by CJ Chivers, it covers how Kalashnikov was a Soviet propaganda puppet, how they murdered his friends when they tried to tell the world it was a team of people that designed the AK, and the possible involvement of Hugo Schmeisser (captured German weapons designer).

> say what you want about this woman
Ayn Rand was a horny bitch and an amphetamine addict. She cheated on her husband and started a small cult made up mostly of economists.

She hated communism and postmodernism so much that she wrote thousands of pages of what amount to scathing, boiling, white-hot, iron-hard prose in condemnation of them. The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged are gripping, vividly drawn, and enjoyable. Their ideological and propagandistic power is overwhelming. To the leftist, these books hold up a mirror revealing the leftist's own subconscious wish for death. To the leftist who cannot face their own desire for death, the books are hated enemies (look up reviews of Atlas Shrugged to see what I mean), but to one who is ready to see their own degenerate ideology for what it is, the books are ideological medicine. Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead are works of genius in the fullest sense.

They're not perfect. Ayn Rand, her ideology, and her cult are not perfect either (no ideology can possibly form a complete model of the world), but they must be recognized as genius works of art.
