>>
>>78257721
I think Russians want the Syrians to focus the manpower and equipment on other areas first. It was going to be a waste of Russia's limited capabilities to protect the SAA in another salient.

Their waste and stretch of manpower in this offensive has already put pressure on the southern Aleppo front where they've lost some territory. Their blunder has allowed ISIS to capture more weapons from them so they'll be facing the consequences of that in the future.
>>
>>78258574
The problem is they didn't give air support to southern Aleppo either, they just let it get taken. There's something fishy going on with the Russians, when SAA is on the offensive they lend no support. Seems like Russia want this to be another frozen conflict, that seems to be their speciality.

Good article on Russia-Iran-Syria disagreements. Basically
>Assad more belligerent than people realize, wants to reconquer every single part of Syria. Will crush Kurds eventually.
>Russia wants to a negotiated peace settlement but Damascus wants none of it
>Iran fully backs Assad, doesn't even want to think about him leaving or making peace
>Russia is unwilling to pressure Assad because he can ditch them and fully turn to Iran

http://russialist.org/rbth-the-3-key-areas-of-disagreement-between-moscow-and-damascus-russia-syria-putin-assad/
-------
That said, I fully support the man in reclaiming every single inch of Syria. No matter how many dead and no matter how long it lasts.
>>
>>78262497
Those are hills with a few sunni IS-villages, basically no combat potential. If the saa does anything right, than its that.
>>
>>78263460
>Assad more belligerent than people realize, wants to reconquer every single part of Syria. Will crush Kurds eventually.
He simply understands that the negotiations is just a ploy order to maintain the West from destruction by its allies and they will never abandon attempts to capture Syria.
>Russia wants to a negotiated peace settlement but Damascus wants none of it.
Putin just looking for a way to leave with dignity from the place where he recklessly climbed, he realized that his attempts to be "useful" to the West did not materialize.
>Iran fully backs Assad, doesn't even want to think about him leaving or making peace
Iran hopes that Russia will do all the dirty work, and they also understand that the armistice with terrorists can not be in principle.
>Russia is unwilling to pressure Assad because he can ditch them and fully turn to Iran
in this case, Assad is doomed, for a couple of months it will destroy, and Iran will not be able to help him.
>>
>>78263979
it is just to clear them up. once it is dont the Homs-Hama offensive will be done easily without worrying an enemy would attack from the back from that huge bufferzone will be created.

the thing is ISIS response very aggressively on the territory they are being attacked in. if SAA managed to pull some forces from Ithriya-raqqa road to these hills it will weaken IS force a little bit on that road.

Sadly SAA cant into strategy.
>>
>>78259491
The Russian Air Force literally just prevented an ISIS attack on Palmyra while the SAA fled.
>>
>>78263460
Maybe the Russians intentionally didn't give them air support in the Raqqa offensive to show Assad that they won't be pushed around into giving him unconditional support. Specifically support for disastrous offensives.

I'm imagining backroom negotiations went something like:
>Assad asks Russia for the backing of their Air Force in this
>Russia thinks this offensive is a bad move and says they can't give him support and maybe suggest another strategy
>Assad is thinking that the Russians will bail him out regardless and goes ahead with the offensive anyways

Now the Russians are probably telling him he should have listened.

Russia has developed one rather negative trait over the years. You fail to lead your foreign policy projects to their logical end.

>entire Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts not taken
>Mariupol attack was stopped
>Aleppo offensive is not in sight
>Syria intervention officially over

If you begin things you have to finish them.

What would Vlad lose if he sent 20.000 troops in to retake Aleppo and help SAA? What was he so worried about?

He is smart and plays foreign policy game well, but he is to indecisive sometimes.

>>
>>78264701

>>
>>78265094
>What would Vlad lose if he sent 20.000 troops in to retake Aleppo and help SAA?
that would be 20.000 troopes he could potentially lose. russian people do not like having their men killed for nothing.
>>
>>78265473
Where did you read they didn't help?
Didn't you see Russian helicopters giving air support?

In Aleppo they can basically bomb everything and there is a high chance something gets hit.
Also there is a big difference in distance from the Russian airbase.

Sandstorms are literally the most devastating weapon that isis has.

Without the sandstorm, they siege raqqa next week. I'm sure they will regain the lost ground fairly quickly, and this time be able to take out the majority of isis fighters that would be used for the defense of raqqa instead of just slogging with IED's.

You are right on every count. Well done. However: The Kurds are next to the Turks, and compared to Turks Kurds seem like wonderful and civilised people, so of course we cheer for them.
Personally I think Kurdistan should take over Turkey's slots at the Euro championship tournament and the Eurovision Song Contest, and Turkey can then rightly compete with the rest of the Arabs in their own local whatever.
>>
Hi /pol/, I'm not sure where else to ask these questions and I don't think it deserves its own thread:

I have a lot of sympathy for the Kurds in general. I'm a firm believer in national self-determination and I think it's a great injustice that ~30 million people should be split across 4 countries which oppress their ethnicity to varying degrees. I'd like to see a Kurdistan at some point in my lifetime, but I just realized that whether I'd be gung-ho about that concept or not depends on one thing:

Do Kurdish Shi-ites and Sunni's cooperate and coexist with one another currently? Do shared ethnic, cultural, and historical ties outweigh the differences between their respective branches of Islam or would a unified Kurdish state immediately fall victim to the same sectarian violence endemic to seemingly all Muslim states?
>>
>>78296583

To clarify: I would support a unified Kurdistan primarily for strategic reasons, rather than moral ones. It'd be a buffer state at odds with the Sunni Arab world, which is the same reason I'm an Iran fan, as Shi-ite Persians keep a check on them in the same way.
>>
>>78296583
kurds hate everyone and they hate each other. a kurdistan would be really unstable, but i hope there will be one so those fucking commies stop threatening the borders of europe and stop cleansing north syria. they also breed like rabbits, so they would probably starve or immigrate further into turkey or europe.

i do not agree with this map, but if you would cut off the shitty eastern part of turkey, give it to the kurds, dethrone their sultan erdogan and establish a neo-kemalist republic, the country would be way better off than now. destroying the turkish national state would just lead to problems, i do not support revisionism. that would be like conquering königsberg from the russians.

Even still, you don't put SPGs in a place where a known enemy can hit them with infantry weaponry and you can't conduct blitzes with SPGs. Even if you get even further range into enemy territory keeping your own men out of danger (especially if they aren't even officially fighting a war yet) should be the priority.

First hit was probably a M-60 but the second hit was in a group of T-155s.

Last time when ISIS scrapped a Turkish M-60, the tank after the hit looked very similar to your picture. But it looks like both the Kurds and ISIS suck at aiming ATGMs. Only one crew member was wounded by the ISIS hit, so there was penetration of the armor but the crew largely survived because ISIS couldn't aim for shit.

That is ignorance and wishful thinking on your part.
Kurds carried out most of the Ottoman genocides.
Kurds disarm and abandon Yazidis for ISIS. They want to kick out non-Kurds from 'their' territory, even though Kurds are themselves invaders.

In 50 years, Kurds will be the target of everyone's hatred because they're honestly terrible people.
