The most common reason I hear on why women wear yoga pants is because they're comfortable. I used to almost believe this, but then I asked myself how often I see older women wearing yoga pants. After all, the older someone gets the more they tend to value comfort. And yet I never see it, maybe every now and then I'll see a fit older woman wear them, but not an everyday woman.
So why do younger women wear them? It's fucking obvious, it's all about showing off their bodies while keeping up the farce of "decency" for still wearing pants (both a trick to society and to themselves). If anything the "comfort" women get from wearing them is the comfort of knowing they're showing off their butts and legs.
We don't need that shit in school or most anywhere else. Wear them when you're actually doing yoga, wear them at a fucking club or something where sex appeal is the reason for being there, but you don't need to wear them while you're sitting in a fucking classroom.
