REUTERS - A team of scientists at MIT have discovered a link between desktop operating system choice and several serious social and mental disorders. The team did a wide-ranging survey across three states of 20,000 males and 10,000 female users ages 18 to 25, drawn from users of three popular desktop operating systems; Microsoft Windows, Apple OS X and Linux. The volunteers were divided into groups according to their operating system and subjected to a series of tests meant to determine their individual IQs as well as cognitive, social and behavioural abnormalities.

The results of the testing showed that the group with the highest mean IQ by some margin was the Linux test group, averaging at 117, levels expected of good undergraduate students. The Windows and Apple groups averaged at 103 and 101 respectively, well within expected ranges. The Linux group showed highly elevated levels of several socio-cognitive disorders including several linked to pedophilia and violent outbursts, while the Apple group seemed to be the most socially adjusted. The Apple group were also determined to be more likely to be musicians or consider themselves artists and had a higher proportion of homosexuals, at 43%, than either the Windows or Linux groups, who were both closer to the expected average of 9%.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

it's how everyone calls it so i call it that, it's also faster to say linux than GNU when speaking

Computer science is real. There are some heavy proofs, like the halting problem and NP Complete, NP hard, and computational machine classes, like finite state machines (regular expression/lexical analyzers), push down automatons (parser generators, context free grammar parsers), and turing machines (context sensitive grammar parsers). We know of no other computational model that is more powerful than the turing machine, which is theoretical anyway, we have no infinite tape. The finite nature of modern computers make them as dumb as finite state machines, theoretically.

Linux is cool because you can get tons of free software and modern software distribution means you can do music, modelling (blender), browsers (chrome, firefox), programming (g++, python, bash, every fricking language) or serious stuff like machine learning is only done in unix.

I have two SSDs, one with Win 7 one with Linux. For general use and stuff I use Linux, but sometimes it's just easier/better to use Windows since pretty much everything is written to run on it first and foremost if not only.

lol. My work mac has a fuckton of adware/malware sites trying to get me to install their "flash player upgrade" because mine is "out of date". Linux has virusus but not nearly as many as Windows/Mac. The web is so poisonous to them.

>>78233998
Yeah, whatever. GNU couldn't get their kernel together (hurd) and some alcoholic kid made one and everyone went apeshit. Without Linus, gnu would still be some academic thing. Linux KILLED Sun Micro. GNU didn't.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Windows 10, is in fact, NSA/Windows, or as I've recently taken to calling it, NSA plus Windows. Windows is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another component of a fully functioning NSA surveillance system made useful by the NSA corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by NIST.
Many computer users run a modified version of the NSA system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of NSA which is widely used today is often called "Windows", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the NSA system, developed by the NSA Special Projects Directorate.
There really is a Windows, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Windows is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete intelligence collection system. Windows is normally used in combination with the NSA operating system: the whole system is basically NSA with Windows added, or NSA/Windows. All the so-called "Windows" distributions are really distributions of NSA/Windows.

Not at all, we would like to monitor you for your own good, to check you are safe and well. We would keep all data on you only for a short while to ensure accuracy of analytics. No third party will ever get access to the data you create.

If you don't want any of your data or activity to be monitored then your only option is to not use anything that connects to the internet, ever. Pick one.
>>
>>78234211
I love it because I can smoke a bowl and spend hours in Lisp in ecstasy - Windows users will never know what it feels like to attain that level of connection with pure logic.

Because Linux, as a tool, is to the mind as the lever is to the arm. It amplifies your power and enables you to embark on projects beyond the scope of lesser systems like Windows. Working in Windows is like building a mosaic out of lentils using a tweezer and glue. Linux is like wielding an air gun with power and precision. It opens out whole kingdoms shut to other men.

Hi /pol/, a friend of mine showed me this thread and there's something I've gotta tell you.

It doesn't actually matter what OS you use. If you've bought any PC parts in the last ten years, the NSA has your computer riddled with hardware backdoors. It doesn't matter how secure your software is if the hardware isn't.

You're correct, I accept it. But that doesn't mean I like it. Of course I would prefer a completely free internet, a free life, an unmonitored existence. That just doesn't exist anymore though. There's no choice but to grin and bare it, or completely go off the grid. Again, pick one. It sucks, but there's nothing you can do about it.
