The problem with being European is that the EU lacks shared values with the UK, we value democracy and allowing the people to elect the decision and law makers. We value our own sovereignty and our way of life because objectively it's some of the best in the world and it's being threatened by mass immigration which is enabled in large part by EU membership.

It's time to leave
I would welcome a strong union between equivalent (not necessarily equal) countries. Hell, I'd even give up whats left of my own countries identity to achieve this to come out of it stronger together.
However, in the current EU situation I much rather stand alone, for better or worse, than deal with this undemocratic moloch that we have now.
Also, I have no problem with high taxes and what's here called 'socialism' to achieve a higher quality of living for everyone that deserves it.

About the identity, I really believe we have a common european identity, fighting against each other for centuries have its advantages. So if we could be together, why should we stay separate? In a global market like the nowadays one, separates small countries like Bulgaria will never get to an important economical and political position. Also bigger states like Britain and Germany will be in a better position to compete against USA or China.
