Communism and socialism are sweet smelling poisons, meaning they are great ideas until you seriously think about them and begin to realize the unintended consequences that result from them. Kids, being dumb kids, tend to pick up communism because they aren't mature enough to see past the surface.
Once people grow up, read some history on communism, and most importantly get a fucking job people tend to wise up. Once they actually understand just how much of a pay cut taxes take from their hard work, people begin to realize that communism is stupid.
