I don't think that's the argument. It's whether we're better off or not without a government directing things to some degree. I think if we were better off without government there'd be case studies available to us of long term stateless societies that were successful. Other than semi nomadic tribes, there's no example. We've always had heirarchis in settled civilisation. My other thought is, if we're capable of a long term stateless society as a species we likely aren't culturally ready for it. Every culture today is a product of a state run society

If you want to argue for a stateless society, what you need isn't the elimination of hierarchies but the rise of voluntarism. There's nothing inherently wrong about the structure of what we think of as a state except the part where people are made to live within that structure by force.
Logically speaking, you could have two societies side by side, one that is structured exactly like a feudal monarchy, the other as a communist enclave, and as long as every member of those societies is there of their own free will, you've technically got a stateless society.
